It’s still there.

KTrain and I did a 100km pathway loop today. Beauty day!

^ that is a solid ride.

What is the status of the new pathway by burnco/raga? A few weeks ago I rode along Ogden and it looked like it was open. Is it, and does it just end as I am assuming that construction where they are doing whatever by the bridge would not allow for the path to be completed yet

Your post is the first time I ever heard of this so I tried it today after cycling into Bowness and then down to Edworthy and then climbing up the mountain with the terrible condition road into nothing but the giant Sarcee intersection and having no idea where to go.

I ended up missing the Mattamy Greenway and ended up in Marda Loop.

What section did you do? Is there a good section that is at least a 50km stretch of cycle worthy and marked routes?

Which loop did you do? I usually end up going down to fish creek and then cutting over to Southcentre for a bite and biobreak and then getting stuck in the residential side on the west back to downtown. Still looking for a good loop instead of doubling back the Bow River Pathway.

This is the activity: https://www.strava.com/activities/5906041006

We cut through Edgemont and down 53rd instead of going further west.

I did a similar route to Ktrain but went over Nosehill and then a bit further west on the west side. I took that same long, steep, construction road up from edworthy and then finally figured out that the Sarcee Greenway continuation is kiddie corner to where the path dumps you.

Haven't tried for a few weeks, it was complete most of the way but was still closed, though you can get around the first set of construction fence pretty easy (uhm... allegedly). There's another fenced off portion towards the Calf Robe where it was under active construction that I turned around at, but again haven't been for a few weeks...

As someone who grew up in Calgary, that is a kick-ass route. Seems like it would be an epic ride.

Nice work.

I walked 18 holes yesterday, then rode 50k in the afternoon and then another 40k today. My legs are heavy.

As an aside, what is with all the older guys going shirtless these days? Am I missing something. Saw one guy with no trap and short spandex shorts - it was not a flattering look for him

Yeah, I found this out yesterday. Will be interesting once it is open to see if it is a good alternative for those in the SE to get downtown. Saves the lynnwood climb, but it seems it would be a pita to take.

The YouTube channels Not Just Bikes and Shifter did a collaboration/comparison between cycling in Calgary and Amsterdam:

Amsterdam rider: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8F5...l=NotJustBikes

Calgary rider: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFMh...hannel=Shifter

Though the outcome is never really in doubt, it's interesting how the two channels count what are good and what are bad features for cyclists. For example, early on in Calgary, there is a protected left-turn which the Amsterdam rider points out as being a great feature that keeps cyclists safe, but the Calgary cyclist describes as "this weird left-turn thing" and subtracts points.

edit: I dunno why I can't embed.

I changed the tube and pumped it up and seemed to be holding air just fine for days. She took the bike out camping and she brought it back with a flat tire again. She says she didnt ride over anything.

Any thoughts on what I should check next? Appreciate the assistance.
So an update on this. Because it's driving me mental and I'm really just curious!!

Since the initial message, I have purchased new tubes, taken tires off wheels, checked for anything that could be puncturing tube. And even had someone else do the same!

So after buying new tubes, the back tire still went flat. Tried again, but this time we switched the wheels front to back. This time both tires went flat!!

Is this just a cursed bike? Haha. Good news is my daughter will need a new bike in the spring anyway but man I don't even want to sell this thing given all the quirks!!

Maybe the cold weather is affecting the tires?

Are you half inflating the tubes before putting them in? This helps from pinching the tubes between the bead and the rim.

Run a rag through the inside of the tire and see if it snags . That indicates you missed some. If not turn the tire inside out in small sections and feel for some thing small. This is often the only way to find really small things like thorn ends.

Are there 2 small holes when you check the tubes? This is a snake item that indicates not enough air the tubes causing the tube to pinch between the rim and road.

Are the punctures inside the tube or outside. Outside is foreign object stuck in the tire inside would mean the it's a spokehead or spoke puncturing it. More common on single wall rims when the rim strip isn't going the job. Most kids bikes are single wall and use ####ty rim straps.

Kids love to skid, is their any flat spots? On that not how old are the tires? You run into more issues as the tread wears.

Can you post pictures? This is a good way for me to tell at least.

Thanks a lot for all the info in your post.

1. Yes, half inflating the tubes before putting them in.
2. Yes, have run a cloth along the inside and have also turned the tire inside out. Cannot find or feel anything
3. Oddly enough cannot even see any punctures. Tube can be re-inflated and hold air for a couple of days and then go flat
4. Tires were new with the bike. So two years old. She has not been able to ride it enough to do any damage to them! She does not skid - no flat spots on them and still lots of tread
5. She's about 80lbs. It's a 24" wheel. Not sure if those details matter.
6. Problem was isolated to the back tire. However, after flipping the wheels, the problem now exists in both!
7. I will try to post pics when I am home from work today.

Thanks again for the info. At this point its a last hurrah before the bike gets fired into the sun!!

There's most likely a small thorn head in the tires. You won't see it and won't feel it unless you turn the tire inside out. But if you've rotated tires it's probably bad rim strips.

Have you inflated the tubes and placed them in a tub of water

You should avoid using the tire lever to get the tire back on once the new tube is inserted. Sometimes you can pinch the tube again.

Shifter is one of those channels that popped into my feed once I fell asleep night after night with GCN playing on my TV. I had no idea he was a Calgarian until I recognized the sunset and bird sounds in one of his videos.

Does anybody recognize the residential cycle path area he is in around 2:00 of this video? It looks quite nice.
