There are definitely similarities in the sense that the two coaches play possession based games, often outshoot the opposition and lose, ‘advanced stats’ look good and actual results are poor.
You have a guy with poor results, and people throwing out excuses for poor results.
Sure the two coaches are not the same people. But those are similarities in the overarching story
Peters is reportedly crusty. Gulutzan is nice.
I think some level of skepticism, even a healthy level, is reasonable. There are known coaches out there who have succeeded.
That’s why this is a ‘smartest guy in the room’ move.
There are different kinds of smartest guys in the room. Those who are and those who think they are.
Heck I'll be a bit skeptical of Peters if he's hired until he proves he's a good choice.
I'm just arguing that raging against the choice seems bizarre since we as a fanbase are pretty uninformed on Peters.
I'm arguing that equating GG to Peters is silly. Like simplistic to the point of it being a laughable opinion to have. Obviously there are some similarities. And obviously there are some dissimilarities. Enough to immediately dismiss the foolish notion that one guy almost exactly equals the other guy. I mean it should just be obvious that no two coaches are almost exact clones of each other. Obvious to the point that suggesting it should be seen as preposterous.
Would I prefer a coach who has more of a proven track record of winning? Yeah. Will I be skeptical of Peters until he proves himself? For sure I will. But I'm not buying this GG = Peters talk. I'm not buying this idea that Peters is doomed to be an unsuccessful hire should Treliving make it.
In the end we'll have to wait and see. I personally trust Treliving to make the choice he thinks best. I don't think his primary motivation in making the coaching hire will be how smart does he look. I think he wants to contend and he'll hire the coach he thinks gives the Flames the best chance to contend. Only time will tell if he makes the right choice. I voted Sutter myself but I won't hate Peters if he's the choice.

What the hell do I know but it sure feels like the Bill Peters hire is a fait accompli. If the rumours are true and he is Trelivings guy and Sutter was the owners guy then Tre has absolutely put his own job in Bill Peters hands. I wish them both all the best.

I would think Treliving's job is in the hands of whatever coach he hires at this point. Can't imagine many GMs survive firing 3 coaches, so this is likely it no matter who is hired.

I would tend to agree unless Treliving is, for lack of a better word, forced to hire Sutter at the behest of the owners. In that scenario I feel like he may get one more kick at the can of Sutter didn’t work out.
If Sutter doesn’t want to coach again, I propose a cardboard cutout Sutter behind the bench instead. Cardboard Sutter would get more compete and effort out of the players than GG could.
Funny but looks like a charity gig, so can't make too much fun of it.
Yeah I don't see a need to bash the guy now. I wanted him gone sure but now that he is I wish him success elsewhere. Would be interesting to follow him if he goes somewhere that has players that suit his style

Well if Peters does indeed come here here's a few clips of him presenting from that coaches site that someone linked earlier.
One thing that occurred to me from watching that first video is how valuable it was for them to have Sean Burke to rely on for advice on handling goaltending decisions. I knew our GC, Jordan Sigalet, had his career cut short from MS and never questioned him being a good choice for his position but that video made me think; having never gained that long time NHL starter experience, he surely can’t be relied upon for similar expert opinions (how would he be able to relate to what’s going on in an experienced starters head 70 games into his 10th season for example), which might be a disadvantage for us but obviously he has other strengths in his coaching abilities.
I’m just left wondering what his known strengths may be and how much respect he holds with veteran goalies that have played at a much higher level for so long? What is it about him that saved him from being let go alongside the other three coaches?
I mean no disrespect, just curious if anyone can offer some insight.
