Or maybe the media attention on the awful human gave more awful humans a way to find him. Not sure what Milo gaining followers has to do with the linked study.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Off topic a bit, but I notice "Ivanka Trump" was trending on Facebook today and clicked to see what people were talking about.
Almost every post includes these words:

She and her husband and son do not belong in our WH. She was not elected or is she first lady. The first lady is the person who posed nude!! we should all be so proud. Boycott any product Trump's sell or Ivanka.
Like, hundreds of accounts saying this exact phrase, or something very similar, with some other stuff added to the beginning or end. Are these just people copying and pasting into their status? It looks more like bots to me.

Sometimes when I see this kind of stuff, I tend to think that people are losing perspective.

I don't mean to discuss what is actually being said in that statement. I just think it's weird the hundreds of throw away accounts on Facebook are posting iterations of the exact same status.

Bernie Sanders went off on Mitch McConnell on the Senate floor today and demanded that he apologize to Elizabeth Warren. He then read the same letter from Coretta Scott King that Warren was silenced for.

Their method of protest deterred people from supporting their cause, while simultaneously vastly increasing exposure for him and his views. There are an awful lot of people who who would agree with the sentiments in that Pie video. The whole thing was utterly counter-productive. Contrast that with the reaction to the Women's March.

I kind of doubt it deterred anyone who had sincere interest in supporting their cause in the first place.

In your opinion it did. I contend their method of protest dramatically increased buddy's public profile, leading to an increase in social media followers. What points to his increase in followers being directly related to people who would have otherwise supported the protesters cause? The women's March thing is disingenuous as well, had their target been Milo it stands to reason he would have seen the same increase in social media followers.

Who the heck are they trying to convince, if not the average person who doesn't know who Yiannopoulos is in the first place?

It's like you're desperately trying to miss the point. There are two separate issues - first, protests like this deter most people from adopting your cause or joining you in protest. Hence the analogy to the Women's march, which did not have any such negative effect, and was generally praised by everyone. Second, the Streisand effect enhances the profile of, and thereby helps popularize, the very person whose views you're protesting against. It's a double-whammy of "this is a terrible idea". There is basically no upside, and lots of downside.
Anyway, here's your mandated daily obvious, easily falsifiable, bald-faced lie from the President for Wednesday, February 8.

Sessions is now confirmed. Sessions and Devos in the past week, pretty crazy.

Isn't this exactly the kind of slut-shaming that the identity politics protestors would rage against in almost any other circumstance?

I am not a fan of Milo, and I think that there is an honest to goodness reason to peacably protest anytime he shows up to s***-disturb. Those protests were disgusting, and certainly pushed me farther away from the so-called "resistance" movement of thugs and fellow travelers that is forming in response to Trump.
