If it was a flight from Alaska it would be a domestic flight, I assume it would be just like Calgary the baggage claim wouldn't be in a secure area?

Wonder where the stopover was, no way Air Canada has an Anchorage or Juneau to Miami flight.

In the article it says that he checked a gun. Probably got on the plane at a stop over. I can't imagine checking a hand gun when in Canada.

The gun was declared? So like a cop or something?
Quote:
The gunman who opened fire at the airport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, had a gun checked in his baggage and had declared the firearm, law enforcement sources told CNN.
The suspect flew to Florida from Alaska, via Canada, the sources said.

Hopefully (besides the obvious condolences) this doesn't make it harder to fly to the states.

He had military ID on him so I would guess that makes it easy for him to check it.

In the States if the gun is properly declared and checked they can transport it. I doubt they need a licence to carry if it's in a secured container.

@CTVToronto We confirm that we have no record of such a passenger by that name, or checked guns, on any of our flights to Fort Lauderdale.

Yeah deep down inside I knew that. I had no idea you could take ammo too but it makes sense I guess.

I offer Justin Bieber as a peace offering. Otherwise Trump may want to wall off our border.

I'm pretty sure there are very few reasons Canadian customs allows hand guns into and out of Canada in the first place. I doubt any of them applied to this guy.

Not a customs expert, but from casually watching border patrol (or whatever its called) even if a gun was declared they won't let the person through. if it was found and not declared they would confiscate it. Like I said not an expert, but it would surprise me if someone traveling from Alaska through Canada were allowed to bring a firearm.

You declare it at the border, fill out some paperwork, customs will verify everything and you're good. There is a multitude of reasons that you'd be taking guns over the border.

You can legally bring a gun into Canada from the US. Certain types are prohibited based on our ridiculous laws, but you can do it.

Long guns, not hand guns.
Hand guns are restricted in Canada, not just anyone can have one.

A US resident can bring a restricted firearm into Canada.
You need RCMP form 5589 and an ATT.
Or they should be able apply for and receive a Canadian PAL/RPAL if they'll be spending any longer amount of time here.
