It's not this year teams are worried about though, or even next year.
It's his contract for his 37 and 38 year old seasons that brings his trade value down.
If Kadri had just this season and next left on his contact like Roy then he'd probably be returning a haul right now. But it's the later years that cause concern, and it's what normalizes that value.
It's the same reason why some people were okay with what I would say was a quantity trade instead of a quality trade for Weegar, because you knew you were getting out of the last 2-3 years of that deal.

He's worth keeping around. This idea being floated around you have to get rid of him is silly. Who in the system can take his spot? There isn't a center in our system that can play in the top 6 right now that wouldn't embarrass themselves on the ice.
|
Because he has asked for a trade and doesn’t want to be part of the rebuild anymore.

At 20% retention and assuming a buyout for the last year (if a team is actually worried about the final year) Kadri’s cap it is
5.6million (5.38% of cap)
5.6 million (4.93% of cap)
1.87 million
1.87 million
That is not overly prohibitive at all. If teams are asking for retention for Kadri he is definitely worth a lot more than the Roy package.

That's 7, just looking at the roster today. Do we think any of the above are apart of the team when it's ready to compete?
And the answer also would be "players that aren't even on the roster today, acquired via deals and signings".

Huby has a good chance of being on LTIR for a while.
And his contract isn’t getting moved anytime soon.. but we will also have 2 slots opening up this summer. So it’s not that wild.

Fair. Though TSN just spent 10mins arguing about the Leafs.
Desperate need of a trade to give them something to talk about, lol.

So they still haven't fully embraced it? Even after the Weegar trade?
I thought we were done with this.
I guess not.

I hope they retain on Kadri if there's an offer and keep Coleman. The Texas Tiger will be much easier to trade down the road.
We've already seen glimpses of a checked out Kadri. Really dont want him around anymore.
Coleman may be pissed about the whole situation but the guy is a pro and he wont let it effect the team or lockerroom in fashion.

Is it better to dump Kadri at all costs or do you hold firm on a price? I want good value in a Kadri return not just dumping the deal.
Coleman will get a 2nd+ next year so if a team wants him this year it should be a 1st

Mapping out the Flames roster as much as you can now over the next few years, retaining Kadri for 3 years is absolutely doable where you can still use the other slots to move Frost/Farabee/Coleman in subsequent years.
|
Just curious, but I have seen this a few times. Why do people think we are going to need to retain on Frost/Farabee/Coleman in future years?
Frost and Coleman each only have one more year after this, Farabee two, and not sure we need to move out any of them urgently as we still need to fill a roster...
