Logan Couture is dynamite in the playoffs. Just a tremendous (and underrated) player. If he's available, I'd be all over him.
Edit: wait, he's 31 and is signed until 2027? Christ. Nevermind.

If half of the board gets their wish that Johnny and Monahan move on to greener pastures, the other half of the board is going to have a collective meltdown with the result. Actually that's not true. 5% of us just want entertaining hockey, and this would definitely be it :
Hall - Backlund - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Bennett - Dube
Mangiapane - Amazing New Prospecty Type - Is this a Trade Throw-In Dude?
Lucic - Ryan - Phillips
That's a whole forward roster of high energy players who want to win. Plus a plethora of high round picks! I'm in.

I think if you guys trade you are looking at a return similar to what the Leafs got for Kessel. He was also coming off an "off" year. Leafs had to eat money on the trade too but Kessel had term at least. Johnny has how many years on his contract before he signs for a big pay rise? That will definitely impact the return you get.

two more years
Johnny has a lot more value at $6.75M than Kessel did at $8M. Not a great comparison.

Kessels caphit is 6.8 because Leafs retained 1.2 million in the trade.

Disagree, actually.
Penguins saw what Kessel could do on his own, and took advantage of acquiring him because he'd be the third best player on the team. He excelled when he wasn't always in the spotlight, and he had term on his contract.
Gaudreau can get some massive value too, but I am not sure on what team is going to want to pay that with only 2 years left on his contract. Signs also point to Gaudreau just heading for NJ or Philly, so that could really hurt his value too if a team that is not one of those two are acquiring him.

right, they had to eat some to get any kind of decent return.
$6.75M for Johnny is better value - if they retained some (very unlikely) the return would be big

If we can get a return like Montreal got for Patches, I’d be down with that.
Young mans game. Suzuki looks awesome. Buffalo has lots of young pieces and are desperate to make it to playoffs. Keep coming back To them. Johnny could help sell a lot of jerseys, if only for 2 years.

Somehow I doubt CGY is on Couture's 3 team trade list.

I actually think Kessel (at same age as Johnny now at the time of the trade) at 6.8 mill for 7 more years is more valuable than Gaudreau at 6.75 mill for 2 more years.

$6.8M was a lot bigger chunk of the cap back then. And Kessel wasn't at the same level.

Yeah I could see Johnny thriving once he is the third best player on the team. He strikes.me as having a similar personality to Kessel as well. Very laid back and doesn't need to be "the guy"

Don't agree with that - Johnny is very competitive and he definitely wants to be the guy

If the Canucks lose out on Markstrom in the offseason, I could see them targeting Price. Hard to believe he's only 33.

I don’t see it. The only reason they can’t keep Markstrom is because they can’t afford him. Not sure how they will fit a 10.5M goalie on the team especially with huge contracts coming for Pettersson and Hughes

Totally agree. I keep heard no this nonsense that Johnny has lost a step. Johnny won’t fight through checks. Johnny won’t go In The corners. Teams have figured Johnny out.
Bull crap. Johnny lost his heart for Calgary a year and a half ago during that long all star break and he has not been the same since. Management went ahead with this year thinking he might get over what is bothering him but obviously to no avail. To me it’s a split between him and mony. Pure speculation on my part but I just don’t buy this Johnny has lost it narrative. He lost it for Calgary and needs to be moved for his and Calgary sake.
Exact same point as Hamilton was. High end player needing to be moved, and we should be getting back a first, a high end prospect and a higher end roster or he can play out his contract here.
