Anyone have a cooling system pressure test kit I could borrow ?
My 2011 ram has a constant smell of antifreeze in the engine bay and the level is going down but ever so slowly.
I could buy one but would probably only use it once.
SE Calgary location.

Anyone ship from Europe to Vancouver? Seems most ship to Halifax/Toronto, where-as Vancouver would be much easier.

Changing tires over the weekend and the face on one of the anti-theft lugnuts sheered right off.
Canadian Tire has a set of Maximum impact bolt removers for $40 that seems like it should fit the bill.

Any better suggestions?

Would anyone know the best way to patch a power steering hose leak? I have extra fluid but would need to patch it to get the car to the shop in the city about 2 hours away. I don’t think i have it in my ability to swap the power steering line on the 996.

Can't patch the line Lucas stop leak might slow it down enough to get to the shop.

Can you pull the PS belt(so the pump isn't running, causing more leaks) and drive it without PS to the shop?

Once you get those locking nuts off, toss them in the metal recycling bin and put normal ones on.

I had a pinhole in a power steering hose on a trip to Vancouver. Tried a bunch of shops and couldn’t get a replacement so I wrapped it with some self fussing tape and put a hose clamp over the hole. Still seeped a little bit but got back to sk no problem.
There’s a few good tapes available that you might be able to do something similar.

Yes, I'm aware I can google this...
Is there a reason why only North American Trucks use these types of numbers?
RAM 1500, F-150, Chevy 2500 etc...
Do the numbers actually corelate to anything technically?
Does it have to do with towing / bigger engine or something?

1500/150 = 1/2 tonne
2500/250 = 3/4 tonne
3500/350 = 1 tonne
The easiest way to describe it is weight capacity. Where I'm fuzzy is if it is just weight it can carry on the truck itself or towing capacity too? Obviously 2500 can tow more than a 1500 and 3500 outclasses either of those too, but I'm not sure those numbers were initially thought of with towing capacity. These days the correct rating is GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) but the models 1500/2500/3500 give you a general idea of what your truck can/should do.

Ya, the higher the number the more HP/More towing capacity.
3500, F350 you're usually getting into diesel.

1500, 150 - Half tonne
2500 - 3/4 tonne
3500- 1 tonne
Note that is minimum payload capacity. But they don't really line up with that anymore.

T100!
Edit: The forum software decides a message of only "T100" is yelling in all caps, and converts it to lower case lol.

What i remember being told is that half-ton/three-quarter-ton/etc meant how much weight could be carried in the box of the truck.
I don’t think that really applies anymore now that trucks are beefier.

The "1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, 1-ton" nomenclature was popularized over a century ago, and at the time it was the nominal payload rating of the trucks. (I don't know that anybody really towed trailers per se...)
Nowadays the nomenclature still exists just to denote "small", "medium" and "large" capacities of the automakers' truck lines. A "half-ton" pickup can usually carry quite a bit more than 1000 lbs, and can certainly tow much more than that.

Yeah, it keeps changing what trucks carry and tow. My 1500 can tow 8900 lbs and it's a 2006. Now the newer equivalent models can tow around 12,000 lbs or more.
I'm right at the limit with my truck and holiday RV. I'd like to upgrade to a newer truck but right now just isn't the time to do so in an affordable way.

Payload is still in the ballpark when it comes truck ratings. You really have to look at the GVWR but when you consider the weight of the truck but they are still pretty much in the window (1/2, 3/4, 1 ton).
Tongue weight of your trailer has to be considered in the payload. Where tow ratings vary considerably within similar rated trucks and drivetrain dependent, transmission, diff gear ratios, brakes, coolers. Usually this doesn't change the payload though.

The retail market has really pushed the 3/4 ton truck to the brink of extinction. The truck really doesn't make sense to a consumer anymore. The price of a 3500 (or within $1500) with the capabilities of a 1500. Buyers use to believe that they road much better then a 1 ton but that is no longer the case. A beefier rear end and an extra leaf spring are what you pay for when you move from a 2500 to a 3500 but powertrain remains the same, while the capacities take a major jump. The problem is that 2500's overload very quickly once you are towing a 5th wheel, toy hauler, loaded sled deck and towing an r/v etc...
In BC the 3500/ F-350/ 1 ton, is also exempt from the luxury tax so in BC there is NO demand for the 3/4 ton from a new retail purchase perspective. BC is also more strict and enforces towing and load capacities on personal vehicles so those over loading their trucks and head to BC could be in for some bad news.
