Hey guys! Looking for some advice, I just bought a new bike, and the disc brakes are still pretty squeaky. Any tips on how too fix this or what the issue is?

Did you bed the pads in properly? Are they dusty? Are the centered? My money is on the were not bedded in properly.

could be a little bit of grease or oil on the disc, try cleaning it with Isopropyl Alcohol first, its the easiest fix.

Well and sanding first before Iso.
You place the sand paper on a flat surface , re-surface the pad, sand the rotor slightly then Iso them . This will allow you to re-bed the brakes in properly.
Iso alone is worthless if the rotor and pad are impregnated.

How does one resurface the pad and/or rotor at home?
My commuter rear break caliper decided to puke oil all over my rear disc... which prior to this was already a stupidly noisy squeeler that was more a loud-gradual-slow-downer than an effective stopping device.
It's a fairly old Deore hydraulic. Is it worth trying to have it fixed?

Shimano made their brakes to be disposable. So if the seals are gone it's new caliper/hose time. If it was a sram system they are totally rebuilable.
If it's that large of amount of oil the rotor and pad are toast. That's just totally soaked in the pads and rotor. You can try sanding rotor and Isopropyling it but that in my experience as a long time mechanic is a waste of time. Rarely works after a decent amount of oil gets on it and you've ridden it like that . Just gets into all the pours deeply when heated. It's best to just start fresh with new rotors and pads.
You gotta find that leak first. If it's behind the pads then that caliper is toast because shimano ... . I like my shimanos but cmon.. it's bs their brakes are considered disposable.
It could be at the fitting which would just need new 9live and barb, possibly a hose. Depends on how old your deore actually is . Could be crimped on fitting hose and possibly a banjo fitting. I'd need to see a photo.

I got stung today on my ride.
A wasp hit me right on my lips. It stung me immediately on my bottom lip. I guess it could have been worse. My poop eating grin might have been bigger and I could have taken that evil in my mouth or throat.
Stupid wasp I had the right of way!

Does anybody know a safe cycling route from the downtown to Cross Iron Mills?
I have checked Google Maps cycling options a few times and driven the roads and while some sections have separate bike paths, the others are either multi-lane freeways or single lane rough rural roads where cars behind you could not pass around you.

You might be able to do Nose Creek most of the way and then maybe 14th NE until HWY 566? 566 isn’t bad in that part. O don’t know about 14th.

I don’t have maps open but you can get to Balzac for sure on a gravel bike from the District strip mall area (has a Kinjo amoungst other good dining). Nose creek path way takes you for sure as far as Stoney. There might be a cycling underpass just north of there a km or two.
You’ll have to look at a couple maps to cobble stuff together.
Just stay off Deerfoot.

I did a century ride this morning mostly on the Mattamy Greenway. I have to say that the signage, especially on the west side along Sarcee is terrible. I spent way too much time route finding. At one point the sign directs you down a wooden staircase...

Yes I think a gravel bike would make it but not my road bike with 23mm smooth tires.

My road bike got a flat. I changed it. Now the gears are all messed up. Yes, Im not mechanically inclined. Yes, I watched youtube videos of how to fix it. I wish bicycle stuff didnt have to be so complicated. I havent called any bike shops yet regarding a fix, im sure they'll be able to get me in to fix it in 2 months. Frustrating.

If your gears are messed up after pulling the tire, I'd take a good look and make sure it is centered properly. Look at the space between the frame and wheel so it is even on both sides. It's easy to get it wrong.

It's more of a concept than a cohesive route. Some sections are great, some are just irritating with how many interruptions there are. It really feels like an afterthought, not part of the ring road design, which is a shame. 100km ring around the city ride could be great. Instead it's just frustrating.

chillier mornings now and regular summer-time full finger gloves are a wee chilly. Coming home now riding through random swarms of hovering tasty bits and eyeball-pingers. That said the area around Eau Claire sure is a disaster- hope it doesn't last long.

That's quicker than changing a flat . 10 to 15 bucks and a couple mins of shop time. I wouldn't even bother calling a shop to do that. I'd just show up. That's one of those things shops make a priority. Flats, quick brake fixes and shifting adjustments. Easy to fix and quick turnarounds for a pro.
As a bonus they will be able to do a cursory glance at the bike while it's in the stand and point out any other issues or drivetrain wear ect... plus a air top off for both tires and a chainlubing .
I can make usually make more money in a shop daily just fixing flats and basic brake / shifting adjustments and brake pade replacements if it was just one after another all day long.

So I plan to leave from Fish Creek South by the Lake Mackenzie bridge and head to downtown to the Peace bridge . Are there any path problems I might run into??
The city map shows all good however has anyone run into problems?
Thanks in advance
This would be on labour day Monday

Should be fine, a few weeks ago there was a quick detour by Ogden / 50 Ave but it's pretty brief, and depending which side of the river you are going. Might even be wrapped up by now.
