Best stay out of the trade thread then because that's the topic of the moment: the very real and potentially wise possibility that Huberdeau gets flipped.

Flames could bargain shop and get Kessel on a cheap 1-2 year deal and he’d score 40 with Huberdeau. Trade Hanifin for a Bratt or Barzal. See the Lucic trade through and promote Pelletier. Flames would be stronger that last years team.
Or with the rumors they are listening to offers on Huberdeau, maybe we do this again with St. Louis for Tarasenko and Kyrou?

We've got $9.3M presently but still need to sign Mangiapane. We could buyout Monahan or Lucic to make up the difference. Trade Kylington for picks.

You know Kessel has never scored 40 goals in his career right? He had 8 goals last year. He's basically just going through the motions right now. I know CP likes to over value players but even with Hunerdeau being one of the top playmakers in the game he doesn't magically make someone score 40 goals.

Bennett is a young guy who needed space to trend up. Kessel is past his prime and couldn’t score with good minutes.

Kessel also played for Arizona, nobody puts up points there.

Keller had 28 goals in 67 games. Schmaltz had 23 in 63. Kessel had 8 in 82.

Top line RW -> Mangiapane
I bet he gets to 40 if he plays on Huberdeau's line

Saying Kessel had 8 goals is true but it also leaves out the facts that he shot 4.6% and still finished with 52 points on a terrible team.

So with the Gaudreau and Tkachuk questions being answered now, the cap pressure the Flames were feeling has really been reduced. It's incredible really, especially with this trade yesterday.
Mangiapane for $6.0 million AAV
Kylington for $2.5 million AAV
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Dube - Backlund - Toffoli
Pelletier - Monahan - Coleman
Lucic - Rooney - Lewis
Ruzicka - Phillips
Hanifin - Andersson
Zadorov - Weegar
Kylington - Tanev
Valimaki
Markstrom
Vladar
That comes in with about $1,000,000 cap space left and a full roster.
Plus you know Treliving has a way to move Lucic and probably even Monahan if he had to because the plan all along was to get both Gaudreau and Tkachuk extended for about $20 million AAV combined.

Weegar can also play on the left side. He did so with Ekblad

He was a very distant third in points despite playing 1/3 more games than people ahead of him. And just awful defensively. Sutter would hate him.

I don’t think pairing with Zadorov gives the minutes required for a player of Weegar’s ability (or too many for Z). OTOH pairing Z with Kylington sounds pretty dangerous.
Maybe trade Kylington for a suitable partner for Z, a Gudbranson type, plus something else.

as for UFAs, what about Evan Rodrigues? 28, can play C and RW, right handed shot, had 19 goals and 43 points for Pittsburgh last season.
