Contact is better today, but unfortunately hitting it to the fielders when it matters.

Again, 1st and 2nd with no outs leads to absolutely nothing.

They're making a pitcher who started this game with an ERA above 5 look good. The Jays are so bad they've literally dropped his ERA below 5 during this game.

This team is cheeks and are in a position where we just have to grin and bear it since there aren't that many assets to actually move out.

Aaah, the ole "neck strain"

Seems to happen quite a bit to pitchers when they're struggling

It's from whipping his head back to watch all the rockets his opponents are hitting off him.

His numbers are pretty much on par with his career averages. Why is anyone surprised that he isn't very good?

Not really. He is putting up worse numbers, the guy has fallen apart. Higher walk rate, higher ERA, higher FIP, higher xFIP. He's never been a negative fWAR pitcher (1.1 and 1.1 the last two seasons) this season he's -0.5 fWAR and dropping hard. The only thing he's improved is his K rate.

The hope was that the Jays would be able to take his amazing stuff and help him to improve on his overall numbers, the reason this was the hope is because the Jays obviously believed they could do it enough that they signed him to a 3 year $36 million deal. Unfortunately he's gone the other way.

There is still time to fix him, but he'll have to try tweaking things on the sidelines after his "neck strain" goes away, and then work out the kinks on a minor league rehab assignment. The Jays gave him a ton of rope, but they can't afford to trot him out there anymore at this point. I think it's all mental with this guy.
