Sean Monahan has never once stood up for Johnny Gaudreau.

Ain’t nobody coming to help Tkachuk.

This team...

Lucic has stepped up too...but yeah, generally, this team isn't hard to play against.

I am hoping that Calgary doesn't just try retooling by nibbling around the edges...there's a lot wrong with this team right now.

Time to bring up some of these prospects to give them a taste of the NHL

I don't think anyone knows, or even if it is true. Shane O'brien said that Hartley was really hard on Baertshi and at one point he felt compelled to stand up for him in front of the team. Hartley called Shane "fat and terrible", and the next day Burke put him on waivers. There was another rumour that Baertschi called his mother in Switzerland crying saying he wanted to go home. Whether that was related to the same story, I don't know.

Thing is, O'brien didn't actually have a great reputation as a person or hard worker himself and didn't like Hartley on a personal level, so I take anything he says with a grain of salt. Tanguay defended Hartley and said he can be really hard on people, but also gave him the best advice in his career. In the end, I just don't think Baertschi had the mental strength or character to deal with NHL coaches period. To be fair, I probably wouldn't either.

So who are some good GMs that are available once Treliving is finally fired?

Do we have anything to lose by just implementing a stock trading algorithm at this point?

Maybe Futa unless there is something behind his Kings firing.

What's telling is how few people are posting in game day threads and post game threads. This has to be one of the all-time worst Flames seasons for a variety of reasons. Fans have checked out and lost enthusiasm as I can't remember any time since joining the forum that there's been less enthusiasm for any Flames team. There's simply not a single bright spot as the players have been crap. Ward was crap. Even Darryl Sutter has been crap. Brad Treliving has managed to create this black hole that's sucking anything good out of this franchise. Just an awful, awful season for the organization.

In terms of pure on ice performance combined with future path forward, this is the worst I can remember. There have been worse seasons, but they were not supposed to be good. This team was the one built to contend. This team. It's honestly just embarrassing and it's not even like we have help on the way. Things are bad, so so bad.

CNRL reporting a good 1st quarter profit so maybe that will change and speed things up today.

From CTV:
Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. reported a first-quarter profit of nearly $1.38 billion compared with a loss a year ago.

That stuff has no place in the game. At least in my view.
We can't know that because we don't know what was said. Maybe Sven is super sensitive. Maybe he was already having a bad day. Maybe he renewed his car insurance policy and just found out if he went with Geico instead he could have saved 30%. We shouldn't jump to conclusions.

When Shane O’Brien has to step up and intervene, it’s a problem.

At least in the young guns era fans realized that the bad teams were a byproduct of the NHL pre-salary cap era where the Flames were dumpster diving for talent. There's simply no excuses for the current level of futility given the resources the GM has at his disposal and the talent he inherited. I never thought there would be a day when the Flames level of futility would surpass the Raiders as not even Jon Gruden could make a mess like this. It's a disaster.

Hartley has enough of a rep, across different teams, that people can make some conclusions about whether to believe O’Brien, who has no reason to lie.

I would believe that Hartley went over the top - that's the issue with him.

I like Hartley the coach - some don't, but I thought he was great, got this team to play hard and was an incredibly entertaining product.

I like Hartley the human being - he supported a few players through their 'issues' (like Ferland). He cares about people and wants to help him.

I hate Hartley the Monster - there are times he goes overboard, and these are known. I would conclude that he probably made Sven cry as he was going too far, but that didn't make him wrong ABOUT Sven - definitely not someone that was cut-out for this league, and not someone that was willing to work.

I didn't like that Treliving fired Hartley, but I also understand why he felt he needed to do so. The mistake was made in the subsequent hirings - depending on how you look at it, they were all unproven (or proven in a short sample size that they weren't good) coaches who wasted this team's best years.

Darryl Sutter failed as a GM mostly because of his inability to hire a coach.
Treliving failed mostly because of his inability to hire a coach.

There are other reasons of course - both of them have made other mistakes - but if either one of them hired the right coach who could get a team to exceed expectations, the way we look at either are different.

Feaster was a terrible GM and he got very little right (and he was embarrassing with the media and really seemed to me like a terrible used-car salesman), but the one thing he got right was hire a coach that can make a team exceed expectations.

This team's biggest failure since 2005 has been an inability to find a good coach. They finally have Sutter, but too little too late I guess? He should have been the hire over Peters back then.

Yup, that era had reasonable context. This is just outright failure of a GM.
