Wasn’t pretty but at least it’s a win! The heat has been pretty crazy today as a spectator, 3rd time here and have never felt the heat like today. Can’t imagine how it was for the players, especially for the men going to 5 sets. Seeing Denis play up close was pretty awesome, the level of talent is incredible. Hopefully he can continue to pull it all together on a consistent basis.

That umpire made a horrible over rule on that serve, was in by a mile. I hate cheering against Vasek only do it against Nadal really.

Seriously, they called Pops serve out?. It wasn't even close. It was half a foot in, pathetic.

After dropping the first set, Pospisil managed to score a service break and led 4-2 in the second. But the inexorable Spaniard came back. “I just kind of physically and mentally got a little tired at one point in the match,” Pospisil said. “He just is relentless. He pounced on that. I lost any momentum I had there in the second set. Then it was just one-way traffic. It was just very tough.”

Always susceptible in humid conditions, Pospisil experienced a couple of difficult moments. “I was just bloated,” he explained. “I threw up a couple times. It’s just because I was trying to eat some food and I was drinking too much. I’m sweating more than I’m able to replace. It just makes it a challenge sometimes to fuel up on the court. Sometimes I don’t have any room in my stomach.”

Still the night in Ashe stadium was memorable. “I enjoyed it actually,” he said about the enormous arena. “I felt like it almost plays a little bit like an indoor court in some ways because it’s quite covered. The only trouble for me was the humidity. It didn’t help my case today. I felt like I was hitting the ball really well. I think that was just an extra challenge which isn’t ideal because challenges are great enough when you’re playing someone like Rafael.”

Pospisil added, “the quality of his strokes is really impressive. He hits the ball with a lot of power and spin. He covers the court extremely well. You have to go for it and play riskier than other players.”

I thought he played really well in the first two sets (as good or better than Shapovalov or Raonic who both didn't look impressive against inferior opponents) and once Nadal broke back in the 2nd set it was like the air came out of the tires and Pospisil accepted his fate. Nobody was going to beat Nadal last night as he was in the zone taking care of business.

Not sure if you're referring to his match yesterday or not but Roanic absolutely steamrolled Simon. It wasn't even close.

Pospisil looked like Pospisil does in most matches last night. Never quite able to assert himself in a match against top 30 players, let alone the number 1 seed. A better draw might have seen him get into the 3rd round but this is what he is at this point and it was a good event for him nonetheless.

Fair or foul? Should the umpire say anything? A little unfair to his opponent as Kyrgios wins the 2nd set

Larsson-Kerber is a slugfest.

I guess the umpire has the discretion to make that decision. That said, if I'm PHH, I almost feel like the umpire is choosing sides when he should be remaining impartial. I mean, if Nick doesn't want to try, why are you giving him a pep talk?

I've been flipping back and forth, but the points I have watched have been great. Some fine tennis from both players.

edit: Kerber prevails in the end and applauds her opponent as she leaves the court.

Integrity of the game and match quality for spectators. Should this be allowed to happen for the rest of the match?

I just don't get why Kyrgios does this. He hs elite talent. He has the ability to work himself out of tough spots, but has the mental fortitude of Eeyore.

Umpire should have been immediately removed by the referee. Just penalize Kyrgios, but to give him what amounts to a pep talk is a bit much. Kyrgios might be the most naturally talent player this side of Federer, but yeah, one of the mentally weakest players we've ever seen.
