honestly, is anyone really surprised?

i think that there's been a mass shooting in the US every week for the last year...

Just imagine how much worse it could have been if they didn't have all those guns?! It would be anarchy.... oh wait...

Honestly, I'm not surprised at all. Sadly, my routine seems to be waking up, grabbing a coffee and checking CNN to see if a shooting happened. I expect to see a shooting weekly. I'm not interested in more people being killed. I am anticipating that a shooting might happen which will spur change. After sandy hook, I doubt it but I am hopeful.

The difference is cops are now dying versus civilians. For some reason cop lives matter more than school kids. I could potentially see some change happening now.

^I have the same thoughts about the police lives being the difference. The second amendment in action against the 'tyrannical' police force may scare enough people into change. I have my doubts though.

escalation is the problem now... IF, and its a big if, this was someone that was "inspired" by the Dallas shootings...the last report sounded like a lone gunmen that was shooting indiscriminately around the police headquarters - which seems to be something that was considered...

on the other side of the racial divide, it would not surprise me in the least if some other nut decided to target a BLM protest with an equal degree of force and callousness....

if it goes that direction, things will go very badly...

Now? Around 150 police officers are killed in the line of duty in the U.S. every year, about 50 of them from guns. That's about one cop a week shot dead. And those numbers have been pretty steady since the 60s.

At least two people were killed and more than a dozen others injured after a shooting outside a Florida nightclub hosting an event for teens, officials said early Monday.

The gunfire rang out just as family members were picking up their kids from Club Blu in Fort Myers, where the "no ID required" party had just finished.

Some of the victims were aged as young as 12, according to authorities.
I guess maybe some of the 12 year olds should've been armed, then maybe they could've stopped this.

Edit: Well apparently a thread was made for this, oops. And I'm apparently not bright enough to figure how to delete this.

What's sad is that stories like this are so common, it'll pass out of the news cycle very quickly..

"Two people killed...pfft...we need more reporting on the DNC and leaked emails!"

Shootings like that don't even make the news ticker on Wikipedia's front page. The inevitable argument against is "Happens too often, body count too low, it's barely news."

Murica in 2016, my friends.

We just came back from visiting family in Colorado.

My wife went out with her sister on night for drinks with some of your sister's friends.

One of the topics of discussion was the local school district's purchase of a number AK-47's to "ensure the children were safe".

A beautiful country going to ####.

Mass shooting at a mall in Washington. So far five dead and shooter is still at large

Quote:
A man armed with a rifle has opened fire at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington, killing four women and one man, state police say. The suspected gunman is still at large and his motive is unknown. (more)

The incident began just before 7 p.m. PT on Friday when an unidentified man - believed to be between 20 and 25 years old and armed with a rifle - opened fire inside Macy's at the Cascade Mall. Details about the circumstances of the shooting are still unclear.

Customers at the mall reported being put on lockdown and said they were hiding inside the stores as a large number of officers rushed to the scene and surrounded the mall. Roads in the area have been closed by police.

Well I'm sure that will calm this election cycle down.

Not a mass shooting, but tragic news out of Kentucky where U.S. Olympian Tyson Gay's daughter was killed as an innocent bystander during a shootout.

She was 15 years old and also a rising track star.

Gay, a former world 100-meter and 200-meter champion, confirmed the death of his 15-year-old daughter Trinity to CNN-affiliate WLEX. "She didn't make it. I'm so confused," Gay told WLEX Sports Director Alan Cutler. "She was just here last week for fall break. It's so crazy. I have no idea what happened."

Shooting possibly still under way at Ohio State University.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/28/us/ohi...ter/index.html

CNN reporting that eight people have been taken to hospital, according to the fire department. One in critical condition.

Much sketchier: police may have one person in custody and searching for another, but this isn't verified and could be completely inaccurate.

Edit: bomb squad on campus, looks like every cop in the state is there, and they are all just sort of milling about and don't appear to be concerned that a guy is running around there with a gun, so take from that what you will.

Also, I knew it was a big school, but they said 50,000 students could be there today. It's basically a city unto itself.

No gun apparently and the attacker was originally from Somalia. So if anything more ammo for the Muslim ban.

He apparently drove into a crowd of people and then swung a knife wildly before being put down by police.

Police and Fire were allready on hand as there was a fire alarm pulled.

So in hindsight we probably should have put Charleston in it's own thread and not in here. Was kind of big even for a US mass shooting. But anyway Dylann Roof has been found guilty on all counts and will now go to the penalty phase where the death penalty is in play.

No surprise there.

When they had the final witness who survived on the stand yesterday, I can't remember her name. But the defense attorney when he had an opportunity to cross stood up and said "I'm sorry"

I don't know how they're going to keep that creep away from the needle.
