Denis too. But the sun sets at 9:30 and grass sets are fast, so we have hope.

Cressy is basically just hitting two 1st serves now and he's landing them for the most part.

Well, that was digging deep at 15-30 down to get the hold. Let's go Felix!

Well, at least a small silver lining for Felix is no loss of ranking points.

Shapo prevails in five sets over Rinderknech (6-1 in the 5th set). Interesting that he has switched back to a 95 sq. in racket (was using a Yonex Ezone 98 to start 2022).

You mean already loss of ranking points. All points from last year are lost.
Djokovic's live ranking is 7.

Wow that is a big change that I was unaware of and possibly the reason he's been fighting it as badly as he has for the last while.
Love the fight he showed when it would have been easy to roll over. He's got a long ways to go in order to get back to where he was at this time last season, but hopefully he can just keep building now.

A match like this really has to hurt for a guy who seemed like he had come a long ways in terms of keeping his floor higher than it has been in previous years.
Not to take anything away from Cressy - he has been playing lights out on grass. But, for a talent like FAA to not break his service once, or really even threaten to do so in 4 sets is unacceptable. Felix and his team need to take a good hard look at his return game and figure out why it has become such an issue.

Cressy vs. Sock in round 2 - Over/under is being set at 10 for rallies greater than 9 shots.

I thought Felix returned okay today, but as I mentioned earlier, Cressy was basically hitting two 1st serves for most of the match. Maxime seemed to accept the fact that he was going to hit a few more double faults using that approach, but it was his best way to hold serve. I'm not sure what the overall stats were for rallies exceeding five shots, but I have to think that FAA won at least 75% of those rallies. I think Felix had only one break point the entire match which shows a) how well Cressy was serving and b) Felix not being able to get enough serves into play.
Also, I think Felix was just too tentative today, it looked like to me that he was waiting for Cressy to crack under pressure and it just didn't happen. Two tough losses back-to-back on grass for FAA (first to Hurkacz and now to Cressy). Last six sets on grass he's played have seen five of them go to tie-breaks with Felix winning one of them. Very slim margins out there.

At least grass is over! Let's get back to the real stuff, hardcourts.

Well, if you were to tell me that both Felix and Denis were playing today, and one of them would win the first set only to lose the ensuing three to bow out in the first round, and the other would lose two tiebreakers but gut his way through to a 5 set victory... I would not have guessed who was who.
Anyway, this affects Felix's 9th overall ranking not at all of course. I was interested that in the top 50, this whole "everyone loses immediately before the first round" ranking scenario doesn't really cause all that much chaos. Denis drops 7 spots and that's about as bad or as good as anyone does as a result. On the women's side, Pliskova and Kerber drop 8 and 12 spots respectively, everyone else is more or less where they were.
Interestingly other than those two, the player who has the worst time of it in the top 40 is Kalinina... who is Ukrainian. Every Russian woman in the top 50 either stayed put or gained ranking position; both Ukrainians lost position. On the men's side, Khachanov lost 5 spots, Karatsev gained 2, Rublev and Medvedev stayed the same.
