this Jeff Sessions / Elizabeth Warren quieting on the Senate floor thing is interesting and disturbing, to say the least.
Slow steps to authoritarianism.
Nah, at least this time they were strictly adhering to the letter of the rules, notwithstanding that those rules aren't always applied so strictly. Better than the open flouting of the legal system by the White House.
That said, Warren is making a massive amount of political hay out of being banned from the debate, such that she's gotten far more public attention as a result. I'm left once again wondering when someone is going to figure out that the Streisand Effect is a thing.

But the only people who really compete internationally are the elite, and the U.S. elite are still very well educated.
Don't get me wrong - it's a good thing the average Canadian electrician or payroll manager is better informed and educated than the average American. It just doesn't have any bearing on international competition.

This trend is even more pronounced at the very top of the income distribution. Between 1999 and 2004, just 2% of Princetonians came from the families in the lowest 20% of earnings, while 3.2% came from families in the top 0.1%. The admissions process at top colleges is sometimes further skewed by the preferential treatment given to family members of alumni. Of Harvard’s most recently admitted class, 27% had a relative who also went to that “college near Boston” (pictured). That suggests that the simplest way to become extremely rich is by being born to the right parents. The second-easiest way is to find a rich spouse. If neither approach works, you could try to get into a top college—but remember that not all Princetonians become plutocrats.
Considering the entire Ivanka (and Donald) Trump lines are cheap Chinese made crap, they really do seem to fit in better with Wal-Mart.
Nordstrom did use the reason that the line was not selling. I see her clothes all the time at Marshalls and Winners. If so much of it ends up at these discount retailers, it might be the case that it did not sell well.
If so, Trump makes himself look even more of an idiot for complaining. Certainly not hard to do in his case.
Not sure how that's relevant to international competition for elite talent. Are poor Americans at a big disadvantage when it comes to education? Absolutely. Doesn't mean that the top American students are worse than the top Canadian students. In fact, the American system seems geared towards pushing the high achievers to excel. There's a reason Canada doesn't have anything to compare to MIT or Stanford.
However much worse this administration makes an already poor public education system for the average American, there's little chance we're going to see Silicon Valley companies pull up stakes and move to Canada to take advantage of our better-educated electricians and payroll administrators.

I was adding supporting information to your point about American elites

Canadian woman denied entry to US, says she was told it was because they found videos on her phone that where "against us".
She said when she arrived at the Philipsburg crossing, border agents asked to see her and her cousin's cellphones. They asked for the passwords and then examined the phones for about an hour. Alaoui and her cousin were then questioned separately for about 45 minutes each.
"He said 'Do you practice? Which mosque do you go to? What is the name of the imam? How often do you go to the mosque? What kind of discussions do you hear in the mosque? Does the imam talk to you directly?'" Alaoui said.
She said she was also asked about last week's deadly shooting at a mosque in Quebec city and if she knew any of the victims, and what she thought of Donald Trump's policies.
Border agents also asked her about videos in Arabic on her phone. She said they were videos of daily prayers.
Alaoui said after the questioning she waited about another hour. The border guards returned and told her she was being denied entry.
"They said you're not allowed to go to the United States because we found videos on your phone that are against us," she said.

President Trump denounced arguments against his immigration order as “disgraceful” on Wednesday, a day after three federal appellate judges lobbed critical inquiries at those challenging and defending the plan, and suggested a ruling against his administration would be based on politics and not a fair reading of the law.
In a speech to law enforcement officials in Washington, Trump argued his executive action is clearly legal and read aloud the relevant part of the law, which he called “so simple and so beautifully written and so perfectly written.”
“I watched last night, in amazement, and I heard things that I couldn’t believe, things that really had nothing to do with what I just read,” he said. “And I don’t ever want to call a court biased, so I won’t call it biased. And we haven’t had a decision yet. But courts seem to be so political and it would be so great for our justice system if they would be able to read a statement and do what’s right.”
Trump insisted the order was within his executive powers and “a bad high school student would understand this.”
"A bad high school student would understand this."
Well, Donaeld, there's your problem right there. They're giving you orders that are clearly above your reading level.

Bradd Jaffy ✔ @BraddJaffy The President of the United States is publicly targeting an American company because it dropped his daughter's clothing line—Trump business
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!
Even better, this tweet was sent out at 10:51 a.m... Right in the middle of Trump's daily intelligence briefing. Way to focus on the important issues there.

Because they assume Trump is rich and a "conservative" so he must know what he's doing. What he's doing is instituting all of the exact same George W. Bush policies. Remember how that ended? Yeah....most people don't know dick all about fiscal policy.

It doesn't surprise me. In theory, Trump talks a good talk on the economy. It's like preferring unicorns over horses. In theory, a unicorn would be awesome.
