From what I understand the blind trust is a custom, not law. Much like releasing your tax documents to the public when you run for the office. Trump has already stated his "blind trust" is just turning over his business dealings to his kids.

cbc.ca head story is that there is an expert saying Keystone will be approved in the first week.

Subway better bring in a lot of meat for all those double-meat subs you oil industry fat cats are going to be consuming on a daily basis.

If oil stays at sub $50/bbl. Probably pretty minor impact. With capacity already reached with Keystone, then XL will simply reduce the transportation costs and help the bottom line be less red, but nothing short of the price of oil increasing is going to have any real effect on the economy as is.

Well, it's entirely possible that by the end of 2017 there will be widespread combat in the middle east as Trump decides to try to kill ISIS and everyone who vaguely resembles them, so... that might do it?

But when he makes sure they take all the oil, won't that make our oil kind of irrelevant?

At some point, someone is going to have to tell him that you can't just "take the oil". Unless you want to conquer the relevant areas and occupy them indefinitely, I guess? While also defending hundreds of miles of pipe?

Lol it just sounds so hilarious. "Take the oil", like you just load it into a few trucks and just take off. It's not siphoning gas.

probably none...

They (TCPL) were ready to be shovels in the ground 5 years ago...
All that equipment is expired and ready to be recycled.

Some if not all of the pipe has ben allocated to other projects.

Approval in 2017...Might be built by 2022

As well do they negotiate approval if the Nafta lawsuit is dropped ?

Massive oil & gas discovery in Texas. 20 billion barrels of oil, 16 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 1.6 billion barrels of natural gas liquids. Uhhhhhhh....

How to make Trump go all protectionist on oil with us and protect the NA market? I hope someone clever is thinking about the proper way to manipulate Trump into closing the borders to foreign oil.

1. Manipulate numbers to show a ridiculous trade deficit with the ME on oil. (True or not.)

2. Make up some massive positive employment numbers for the US should they close their borders.

3. Ra-ra-ra the fudge out of American and Canadian oil and how sweet it is. Make it an alt-right thing.

4. I'm willing to start making up the fake news stories to get the American public on board here.

5. Protected NA oil market!

Does anyone else get frustrated with the reports coming out of other parts of Canada that serve to vilify our oil and gas industry to the average citizen? They typically have flashy websites and infographics but show no balance in their blatantly one-sided view of the industry.

Here are a couple specific examples relating to fossil fuel 'subsidies':

http://www.iisd.org/faq/ffs/canada/

http://environmentaldefence.ca/repor...uel-subsidies/

They are essentially claiming that the oil and gas industry is a $3.3B/year drain on our economy and that the citizens are directly subsidizing it with money that would otherwise be spent on health care, education, etc. They list 'Crown Royalty Reductions' in Alberta as making up about 1/3 of this amount, which shows a complete lack of understanding for how the royalty system works.

I understand the environmental opposition to oil and gas megaprojects and think there is some benefit to holding companies feet to the fire when it comes to developing the resource responsibly, but claiming that these industries are an economic drain on our society is just flat out wrong. I'm concerned what the average Canadian believes when they read reports like these as the organizations appear quite well established and certainly know how to market their product.

I'm constantly astounded at how brainwashed my friends from BC and ON are and how their convictions about the energy business are based on pure fabrication. I actually blame the energy industry for this - they have done a piss poor job of educating the general public over the years. And they still aren't doing much to be honest.

Sounds like the OPEC cut is going to happen. Iraq agreed today to cut production, which is a significant development. Originally they argued that they should be allowed to increase production due to their battle with ISIS. Only wild card left is whether Russia cuts or opts to freeze at current levels.

People talk about the U.S. election and fake news and the alt-right, but the energy industry is an example of an issue where a pretty significant proportion of Canadians consume essentially fabricated information.

Any word on what Iran is planning? That's the other key.
