Zadorov is a good skater. Giordano was possibly the slowest player on the Flames. Yes, Zadorov is significantly faster than Giordano.

Whether the 2nd tier guys that were brought in are faster than the prior is irrelevant when you still have a core forward group that is the same (Monahan, Tkachuk and to a lesser extent Lindholm). The Flames top players need more speed, its the main reason they can't generate any space 5 on 5 in tight checking playoff style hockey.

Coleman was added to the top 6.

Andersson and Giordano led the Dmen in PP ice time - pretty much anyone else is a speed improvement there.

Yep, getting annoyed with people that think Zadorov is slow because he is big...guy is way faster than 38 year old GIO

Flames are not slower this season so that narrative can die

are they fast enough? we shall see

Is Gio slower than Tkachuk?

Bennett is fast. In a straight line. Any edgework involved and he is either on his ass or in quick sand.

I haven’t seen or heard much about Pitlick. What kind of player is he?

Bennett is pretty average in a straight line IMO.

Pitlick is fast, especially for his heft. He's a defensive specialist who is usually on a team's PK. GMs always talk about his speed, energy and forecheck. He blocks shots pretty well. He's a Sutter type player to a T.

On the plus side, he's a former Oiler, so he may have some Dubnyk/Gagner/Schultz resurgence in him, plsu he may be motivated against them. On the minus side, he's had wrist issues, so that's a concern.

Pitlick has a good shot too

pretty lazy to just assume he is slow because he is a bottom six player...so was Reider.

Pitlick is an upgrade to last years bottom six but that isn't saying much. Hopefully he plays like he did in Philly/Dallas. Hard to take stats playing with the Yotes too seriously.

Zadorov may be faster than Gio... But he still slow. One of the biggest complaints of Blackhawks fans and analysts.

Zadorov is 100% not faster than Gio. Gio just won a Norris not too long ago. He was fast enough to compete with the best in the world.

Where is this coming from? Nobody has ever called Gio slow before.

After he left the team

Gio is older so he lost some foot speed but to say Zadorov is faster than him is laughable. The complains from Chicago was he is slow on the back check and not fast enough for their team.

It’s also debatable there is a difference between Pitlick and Bennett in speed. Bennett is not slow. That’s Monahan, Tkachuk and Lucic

Zadorov is not a good skater, far from it. In the Colorado series I would be very happy when Zadorov was on the ice. He looked slow as molasses.

I'm honestly confused as how anyone can say he is a good skater.

Bennett and Gio are hard working skaters and are players that hustle almost every shift but they are not as fast as the appear. Average skaters at best.

Zadorov might not be a good skater either but Coleman is faster than Bennett. Pitlick also is a good skater.

No question this team got much bigger and more physical and even if the team isn't faster it's at least comparable overall team speed to last years team. No need to split the atom over it, but this team is not way slower as they lost not one player that is considered a fast skater other than Nordstrom who hardly played

Is it enough to be a contender? Probably not but I like they fact this team is built for the playoffs now. I'd rather have a team that might struggle in the regular season but if we get in we are a team nobody wants to play than a soft regular season team that gets crushed in the playoffs.

It's an interesting phenomenon. For some fans, Gio got way faster after he left. For others, he got way slower.

So, any trade rumors out there? I'm especially interested in ones about that Jack Eichel guy.

If there was. We would be talking about Mark Jankowski.

Not sure how you are under that impression because it has been a topic of conversation for years. I have always been one of Gio's biggest fans, and this is in no way a 'slogging the outgoing player' thing, but foot speed was never his biggest asset, and time has made it worse.

Suggesting Giordano is faster than Zadorov is what is laughable.
