Yes, he is. He's a definite #1 Centre very early on in his development. That puts him in the top 30 of the league already, which isn't that far off from the top 15. Again, at 21 years old.
Regardless, for you to suggest Bennett is the only one with a shot of reaching that level when Monahan's that close is selling him short.

Well it would be a crappy result in one way (EDM and VAN winning) but that would give us a top 5 pick which would guarantee us a pretty good prospect. I'd love a top 5 pick. Replace EDM with CBJ and it's actually the most favourable result other than winning a top 3 pick.

Spoke to a GM today who sees Ovechkin potential in Laine. Has a high end shot and has potential to be 40+ goal scorer in NHL.

I've heard so many great things about Laine... His shot, his size, etc. Wondering if anyone knows his game enough or has watched his play enough to give an idea of what might be the things he needs to work on? Is there anything? How's his foot speed? Most of the the highlights I've seen of him are either on the rush or on the powerplay... How is he at puck possession/cycling?
Just curious what potential downsides he has compared to say Matthews or the other Fin? Are there any?

He needs some work on explosiveness. Even more so for defending than attacking. He has great reach but needs a quicker first step to cover shots and passes better. in my opinion. Top speed has improved a great deal.
Great potential for board play but a lot of that should develop next year in North America. From the boards to the front of the net, he looks strong already but there's less of that in Finland.

Continuing, Laine has surprisingly quick hands for a tall guy with a long stick, uses his body well to give him space with the puck, and great passing skills. Cycle should be really good. He likes to challenge, he draws defenders to him, so with good support he'll create space for others.
As a young player, if you look at his decision making with the puck, the one place where his instincts need refining is carrying the puck. He's good at it so he does it a bit too much sometimes. Which is just a sign of a confident kid in my mind. Otherwise, he had really good numbers when they listed his decisions with the puck in a broadcast during the playoffs, meaning that he had the puck a lot and made good decisions consistently, apart from carrying the puck where he lost it a bit too often.
The most important part is that his shot is laugh-out-loud great. It's a lot of fun to watch a game and wait for him to whip it.

The second best part about Laine after his shot is his competitive attitude. He has a strong will to be on the ice during the big moments and huge confidence that he's the guy to do it, which creates a kind of aura of leadership even though he's not really a leader on his team. He knows he can go out there and pick a corner at any time, and in the semi-finals where he scored 6 goals, you could see that the opposing goalie was acutely aware of that as well.

Interesting. Thanks Henry Fool. Lots to like and potential to grow on with even the things Laine might struggle with. These descriptions actually remind me a bit of Tyler Seguin... His shot is super elite as well. He had some growing pains over his first few seasons but he's definitely one of the elite point producers in the NHL at this point.

Interesting bit at the end where Cox says he's talked to NHL teams that would be happy to take Brown at #4. I'm guessing that is also why Button is convinced he'll go top 8.

Question I'm wondering is, is Chychrun potentially NHL ready in a depth role?
Since we are looking to add help to the team sooner than later given our situation.

He is physically mature. His skating is NHL level. I think you could play him 3rd pairing if you wanted. However given the Flames depth on defense I don't think he'd crack the top 7 for next year.

I wouldn't be mad if we picked brown at 6 if Dubois is gone like I said I don't have a great feeling about Tkachuk.I can't explain it

Windsor wins the Memorial Cup bid for next season. So Brown, Sergachev and Stanley would get good experience next year if they are sent down again.

I wonder if if having a former NHLer as the owner somehow helps Memorial Cup bids. Boughner is the owner, and Rychel is the GM. The Spitfires might have a chance to win it all next year.
As for Chychrun, he's probably ready to play smaller roles on some teams. But I think Conroy or Treliving have said that Chychrun wouldn't be ready to play for the Flames next year.

Burke:
- Draft Lotto Sucked. We dropped a spot. 14 Losers. Embarrassing.
- Think player FLames have at 6 is the same as 5, but 7 and 8 not as good.

From the Truculence comment in another thread, I'm thinking that our three options @6 will be Dubois/Tkachuk/Brown, with the Flames taking whichever is available assuming that 2/3 go to EDM and VAN.
