We are laughing with a top five pick. Hoping for one of the centers since Ekblad should be long gone. Dal Colle looks unreal though, so if we dont get a center I'm still happy. I'd be pretty upset if we fell out of top five

Our last 2 games are against the Jets and Canucks, two very winnable games.
Carolina has proven to be very adept at sucking these last 5 or 6 years. The threat is very real.

I wouldn't mind a Dal Colle or Ehlers at #5.

I posted this in another thread, but I've seen him listed as LW/C. Does anybody know how much experience he has as a centre?

From what I've read, he's played LW 95% of the time over the last 2 seasons. He has not played centre at all this season.
He's a winger.

He played center before major junior. Then converted to wing because Oshawa had centers like Jenner and Laughton

With Glencross most likely leaving after his contract is up for more money (unless we deal him at the deadline), and the question mark on Gaudreau, Dal Colle wouldn't hurt to add into our prospect system. I don't see Burke passing on him if it's between him and Draisaitl.

At 5 yes, he'd clearly be the best player available (if Draisaitl is gone).

If Burke wants someone in the top 3, he's gutsy enough to trade what it takes to get there. It scares me, but it's exciting come draft day.

What are some people you'd trade if you wanted to move up, or add an additional draft pick late in the first? With Cammy out (after not signing with us), Glencross contract ending at the end of next year, Hudler's play as of late, Baertschi, future draft picks? I like Glencross, but I wouldn't be mad if he was part of the package to help us move up. I am not losing hope on Baertschi, so I'd keep him too. Do we trade Gaudreau if he doesn't sign with us? No point on keeping him if he doesn't intend a future with the Flames.
Is it worth our second round pick in 2015 (in a deeper draft) or even any of the 2015 picks to trade up since first rounders are beginning to be untouchables?
The only reason I see us moving up is for Ekblad.

If we sit at 5, I'd trade our 1st + 2nd (35th) to move up to 3rd (for one of the Sams or Ekblad). I'd trade both our 1st + both 2nds (35th and ~55-60th) for the 1st overall. I'd probably trade more for it, but I think 1st-3rd is fairly close.

I'll be shocked if we don't end up with one of Reinhart/Bennett/Ekblad. To me, it seems like Burke sees a big gap outside of the top 3.
I'd do the 1st + two 2nds to get into the top 3. I think the top 3 are that much better (from reading, not scouting obviously).
Who wouldn't trade a first, a second and Berra for a potential franchise player?

The better question is who might be willing to trade down.
Buffalo? Unlikely they already have enough 2nd and 1st round picks in the upcoming drafts.
Florida? They are already deep at C in terms of prospects and if Ekblad is gone, may consider trading down and get a winger plus a pick.
Edmonton? No 2nd rounders or 3rd rounders this year. Also speculated to want to move the 1st for immediate help. Perhaps easier to move that first if they trade down a few spots and pick up an early 2nd in this draft? But would they do that with a hated divison rival...
Islanders? Unlikely, need quality if they are giving up next year's first. Besides trading up 1 spot, is counter productive unless you are trying to block another team from doing it.

I think Burke will make an offer if he has to. We first have to see if we win the lottery (unlikely), but I do see Florida willing to trade their pick if we give them something decent. No way Edmonton gives us their pick. It could also depend on who Buffalo picks whether or not Burke trades up, because I think his eyes are on Ekblad and not Reinhart.

You're hoping that the other teams don't see them the same way.

Just trade Smid back to the oilers for their pick, they need d.

exactly! it happens almost every draft. Mind you, history proves that trading down rarely pays off. I can only think of one example where it did and I'm not going to ruin this thread.

I think the Islanders might be a team that'd be willing to trade their 1st actually. They might be looking for immediate help so the 2015 pick they give up isn't top 5 again.

I sure hope Ritchie shows up to the combine in shape. We can't be taking smaller skilled guys like Ehlers and Nylander... We've got smaller skill in Gaudreau and Baertschi. We need a tough SOB (<-does not stand for Shane O'Brien) with skill.
Dal Colle doesn't strike me as a man with a lot of fight in him.
Burke dislikes Draisaitl so much, he wouldn't even comment on him (something to do with how pro-Oiler he is?).
Bennett/Reinhart/Eklbad will be gone before we pick at #5.
We're looking at 1 of Dal Colle, Ritchie, Perlini, Virtanen, or Kapanen. I don't know much about Kapanen or Perlini.
