Surely at this point there's no way Coleman plays tomorrow, right?

I hope they trade Kadri and Coleman tomorrow.. this way, Conroy can focus on trading away some depth pieces on Friday.

I am not disappointed with the trade return, but seeing that return for Weegar leads me to believe we need to aim lower with our expectations in trading Kadri and Coleman. I would be surprised if we get hemming or O'reilly straight across for coleman, never mind +.

Have to think Hanley is on the move with Maatta coming in, maybe a 4th round pick comes back for him?

I hope we can get some blue chip forwards in a trade one day. That’s my only minor gripe with the work that’s been done. I know we are focusing on drafting the talent but I would love to have gotten an immediate prospect back in any of the moves that was super exciting.

Everyone wants that but it's not realistic. The players we have and will trade are good players, but not elite. No one is trading their top prospects without the pot being sweetened on our end significantly

Agreed, but counterpoint.
A deal like this shows the Flames leaning into the strength of the team: amateur scouting.
Which makes a ton of sense to me. Double down on what you are good at.

Honestly most of our guys aren’t good enough to get a blue chip prospect other than maybe Kadri. For all the mid prospects, the flames have done a good job getting decent guys in these trades. I trust our scouting staff to do some more good work. Adding 4 guys in the same talent realm as Reschny, Potter, and Stockselius will be tidy work in June.

My hopes for the next 2 days:
1. Trade Hanley for a 3rd or 4th - Maata takes over as 6th/7th defenceman.
2. Trade Coleman for a 2nd + prospect - no retention and not expecting a huge return.
3. Trade Kadri ($2.5 million retained) for a 1st + 2nd + B-level prospect - Conroy holds out as long as possible but ends up including some retention on the Kadri deal to get it done rather than have it linger.
Likely some of those picks will be in 2027 instead of 2026. Either way though… make bold picks with each of those acquired draft picks. Go for high ceiling players throughout.

That’s what they say. Build a team from the bottom six up.

Funny seeing some naysayers finally agree that this is a rebuild and be happy with it.
I’ve been there for a while and very supportive with it, but it’s certainly followed the painful back into it style that makes things take longer (like San Jose).
It’ll be effective, and the flames will get some really exciting prospects over the next two to three years, but I hope that flames’ ownership locks this lesson away and embraces the tear down more quickly next time.
Teams almost always have to feel the pain and rebuild, so sell your players at peak value like Armstrong is looking to do with the Blues.
No criticism on Conroy as I think he’s done well with where the owners wanted to go—and the prospect base is very strong—I’d just like to see these things happen more quickly and the team getting some A prospects in deals as they tear things down.

If Conny can get his business done with Kadri and Coleman tomorrow would be nice if he could maybe find some hidden gems to help with roster construction. Wouldn’t mind WiFi depending on what the ask is. Big nasty LD to pair with our offensive minded RD.
We also have some middle 6 forwards we could try and see if we can get a younger player back with, depending on what’s available. Would be nice to sell the vets and maybe add something with some upside on Friday.

Also leans into their other strength. Player development.
I am beginning to think asset management might be the emerging 3rd strength especially with CC at helm. But maybe too soon for such praise.

With one retention spot and tonnes of money saved for 50% retention after Weegar deal. One of the two will get moved. AAV would be negligible if full retention for either. Not sure why the double retention if even mentioned as a hold up to a deal?
Also got to think at least one of Hanley/Pachal/Lomberg is gone too for whatever a mid round pick we can get.

Something like this would be a 10/10 deadline for me and really actually put the flames deep into a rebuild for the next couple years with 4 or 5 veterans out the door. I feel like the flames will be looking for a center back for kadri who can eat some of his minutes. Maybe add in lomberg for another 4th so he can enjoy a playoff run and come back of he feels like it

One other thing to watch for with 11 picks this year, Friday or at the draft is the 50 contract limit. The Flames might find a team up against the limit ready to part with an almost ripe mid tier prospect for a 5th or 6th. Not a common transaction in NHL history but the Flames are uniquely stacked in this years draft with what should be 8 picks in the top ~70
