Nope, out hurt players still count. I think were around 80m right now and 70m is the floor

It looks like they're still about $15 million above the floor and Kadri and Coleman combined are $11.9 million. So, they should still be good this year. Although, with the cap going up, retaining a bit might not be worst thing they could do.

I’m certain the Weegar trade means they won’t trade Whitecloud now which is the right move… but the oilers removing their trade protection on their 2026 1st round pick that San Jose owns makes me want that pick so bad - and San Jose apparently wanted Whitecloud. Unfortunately, they know how valuable that pick can be. They could pass the oilers in the standings, bump them out of a playoff spot and setup the oilers to win a draft lottery spot and jump that pick into the top 10. Would be the most hilarious outcome for the oilers this year… followed by McDavid demanding a trade in the offseason.
I want the flames to be involved in that hilarity… but I just don’t think there’s a way they can be. Oh well… will fun to just be a spectator in the Oilers downfall.

With 11 picks in the fold for the 2026 draft now (and 8 of them in the first 3 rounds) you have to think CC will focus more on 2027 or 2028 picks in any deals over the next couple days.

I think you missed me saying they are rebuilding a while ago, I have been complaining about the speed and purposeful direction with which they were seeming to conduct that.
But yes, this is a confirmation of speed to the rebuild and solid direction. I actually am very excited they elected to keep whitecloud on and make this move instead of flipping him.
I still hope we see a forward move too!
