Rafa is playing the Citi Open (Washington D.C. tourney) for the first time ever.

It's going to be a good field in Washington with Nadal, Shapo, Felix , Milo's, Krygios , Isner all going

Pretty much the match in a nutshell. It wasn't even the actual serving that really let him down in those games either. It was just the same poor shot selection in 2-3 points of his final games each set that did him in. He would likely get away with it playing against 99% of the rest of the tour too.

Given the strides he's made in the last 18 months, I would suspect he's still got a slightly higher ceiling to reach once he corrects these minor issues. The guy can definitely win a slam after that match and seeing how good his serve can be when it's actually on like it was at Wimbledon.

It's a 500 level tourney, but it's going to be close to a Masters 1000 field.

Not that his toss actually cost him the match today, but he really needs to work on that.

If he fixes his ball toss and as he matures and gets a little bit stronger I could see his serve hitting 140MPH and becoming a real consistent weapon.

I don't even think he has to worry about the speed, he's got plenty of pop already. Just needs to get a little more consistent and cut out some of the double faults. Today, his serve was fine, shot selection is what let him down at crucial times.

Honestly his ball toss hardly seemed to hurt him at all in any match in the tourney and certainly not today. It's weird that he catches it so much but if it doesn't significantly contribute to making his serve erratic I'm not even much fussed about it.

Shot selection and margin for error. You have huge groundstrokes. Just keep focusing on keeping them in play. No need to paint the lines. Maybe instead of clean winners some of those shots will bounce uselessly off the opponent's racket into the net or straight into the ground - whatever. A point is a point.

Ash Barty is flying. Up 3-0 with 12 points played and 12 points won.

Barty was up a break at 3-1 in set 2 after taking the opening set and Pliskova looked down and out. It's now Pliskova up 4-3 (Barty about to serve).

I certainly wasn't expecting to be watching a 3rd set to decide the ladies champion, but here we are.

Pliskova was shell-shocked to start, but she eventually started finding her rhythm.

No surprise that Felix has pulled out of the tourney in Hamburg and Shapo has pulled out of the tourney in Gstaad.

Indeed it was. I began watching from the second set onwards. Su-wei has a great feel when she's up close to the net.

Feel bad for Kudermatova tho... She was probably the best player in the finals.

Hopefully the Men's Doubles championship match (just started) can keep up with the women!
