Sutter would be an upgrade on Backlund. Something to stew on. I'd be keen on adding Sutter to the Flames.

Trading a young player like Ferland makes no sense if that's the case. Same with Colborne. Of course anything is possible, but they won't give those two players away for nothing. I don't think I'd trade Ferland for Skinner either.
Talk about Flame coloured glasses.

Trade a player who hasn't really proved anything in the AHL or NHL. Who was drafted 133rd overall and is hyped because he embarassed Bieksa in the playoffs...

For a 23 year old winger, who was drafted 7th overall, has two 30 goal seasons, won the Calder, and has already scored 115 NHL goals in 336 games.

Yeah, why would the Flames want to do a trade like that....

***EDIT***
And I love Ferland, but come on already....

Eric Staal's agent will meet with Ron Francis in the upcoming week to discuss his future in Carolina. Staal has 1 year left on his contract

Dubnyk negotations ongoing.
Wild are cap strapped team making it difficult.
Want to buyout Backstrom but has shoulder surgery upcoming and you cannot buyout an injured player.
Dubnyk may end up wanting more money than the Wild are willing to spend and SJ may go after him.

Vancouver having pro scouting meetings where the future of Lack and Markstrom will be decided.

Penguins have interest in Saad, but Chicago very unlikely to move him.

Brandon Sutter is 1 year from UFA and the Penguins could have him on trade talks

Most of that is entirely irrelevant because the vast majority of those points were put up pre-concussion issues. He put up a mere 33 points this past season and will make about 6M per season until the 2019/2020 season.

So there are reasons, GOOD reasons, why the Flames wouldn't even look at that deal.

Has nothing to do with having Flames colored glasses and everything to do with context.

So indeed - come on already.

Maybe because Jeff Skinner is one more concussion away from retirement? No thanks, I agree, I would not trade Ferland for Skinner.

Exact same thing was said back in the day about Bergeron. Now he's basically untouchable.

Bergeron never saw this type of performance drop off after his concussions. That's what it is about for me - the fact he doesn't look like the same player now.

Which obviously means Skinner will follow the exact same trajectory.

I guess Minny could pay a team to take Backstrom? That could make sense for us as his contract is done after this year. He has a NMC so he controls where he goes

Why does it matter where they were drafted?

And I mentioned before, I loved Skinner a couple/few years ago. I watched him play a few times here and there last season and he clearly wasn't the same player to me. If you would make that trade, great. His recent play and his concussion history scares me. Therefore, for a Flames team that needs to get bigger and tougher to play against I'll take Ferland. I really don't care where he was drafted.

It matters when youre comparing 133 to 7. It show pedigree, track record, skill, how other teams saw him. It's really rare for players to pull a Benn or Datsyuk. Draft position is pretty indicative of skill. At least when talking a first or second round player.

No, it's an indication of what scouts saw and predicted during their draft year. They're aren't 18 or 19 anymore. Players develop differently all the time. All we can do is compare them today. You can throw their draft position out the window at this point, it really means nothing when players are in their 20's.

It doesn't matter whatsoever.
Johnny Gaudreau says hi
TJ Brodie says hi
Both have more skill than most in their entire draft class.

That's the thing about Skinner is with the injury issues could he be had for a discount if a team absorbs his full cap hit. Skinner is a risky move but it is the type of risk I would be okay with the Flames making. At 23 he still has a lot of upside and could be an amazing fit with Bennett, giving the Flames 2 pairs of young high end forwards.

LeBrun on Mike Richards:

Quote:
What I think might be at play here is the Kings are hoping that if they can complete a Richards deal, the team involved turns around and buys him out. The point of the deal for that team would be to acquire whatever other asset is involved.

If the Wild can't sign Dubnyk that's a huge setback they were a different team without him basically.

On the topic of San Jose I am almost certain they make a deal for Talbot involving some offense going the other way Hetrl for example.

Interesting that LeBrun said Chiarelli is seriously contemplating putting in an offer sheet on Dougie Hamilton. He mentioned multiple teams are interested in an offer sheet on Hamilton.

I really REALLY hope we're one of those teams. If not I hope the oilers out in an offer sheet that gets matched so they make more enimies.

Hamilton would still have to actually sign that offer sheet.
