Nish (.71) has a better ppg than Kadri (.68) this year, would not classify including him in a trade as a cap dump, but more hockey related trade and a piece to make the money work. Like Whitecloud

It’s a pretty funny sequence. First tweet is that he doesn’t think Nichushkin gets traded, 5 minutes later he says he is likely gone by Friday, and two minutes after that he says could go to the Flames

Nichushkin has Hurricane written all over him as he's an advanced stats darling and they are looking for size and grit.
Nichushkin + 1st to Flames From Colorado
Nichushkin to Carolina for 1st + Kotkaniemi (maybe another piece too)
Flames get 2 1sts + Kotkaniemi for Kadri...that seems pretty fair actually. Kotkaniemi and Nichushkin both have 4 years remaining after this season.

I'd love this.

Not sure if mentioned but the Leafs are reportedly scratcing McMann, Laughton, and Ekman-Larsson for roster management tonight. Apparently Berube said today that wouldn't happen tonight so maybe some communication issues in TO

Not sure why the Avs wouldn't just go through Carolina in this case. Go get the 1st+ Kotkaniemi from Carolina and just flip that to Calgary in exchange for Kadri vs the Flames getting the double dip.

It's possible a dman goes back with Kadri in that scenario too.
Nichushkin + 1st for Kadri + Pachal
Then flip Nichushkin to a team like Carolina or San Jose looking for some top 6 grit, size and skill

Because I don't think a 1st + Kotkaniemi is worth Kadri straight up.
So Avs have to add the second first still anyways.
Kotkaiemi has $4.8M x 4 on that deal and he's a 4th line C with 9 points this year.
In reality it's probably not even enough for Nichushkin, as it probably worth a 1st just to eat that contract. The reality is maybe it's more from Carolina and less from Colorado because in this case Carolina is shedding the worst contract of the contracts moved.

I think that's optimistic, and pretty strong value. A top 9 C and a first for Kadri w/o retention would be a wild return IMO.

Re nichushkin thats a worse contract than Kadris. Extra year and more money. I know hes younger but he plays a less valuable position. I dont mind it as a money in element but id be real disappointed if our big rebuild trade is to trade our 1st line center for a declining 31 year old 2nd line winger. As part of a bigger deal with futures coming back to enable a deal? Why not

Kotkaniemi is negative value.
If he had any value Carolina would have moved him already this year.
It's likely that Nichushkin+1st is probably too much from Colorado for Kadri though, and that Kotkaniemi+1st isn't enough for Nichushkin due to how poor Kotkaniemi's contract is.
So maybe it's more like
Nichushkin + 2nd for Kadri
Nichushkin for 1st + Kotkaniemi + Rybakin (or some other prospect that's not Nadeau)

Kadri is a better fit for Colorado's run and Kadri is producing at an equal rate in a far worse situation.
And I guess Nichushkin's extra curricular stuff factors into it as well for Colorado.

Nichushkin is hardly a cap dump, though. That's a good player Colorado would be giving up.
Then again, the Flames did get Whitecloud as part of the Andersson trade, so what do I know.

I don't want Nichuskin anywhere near our young players.
Didn't he quit on his team last year? And then failed a drug test.
No thanks.

I have never seen the days leading up to trade deadline day as quiet as it has been. Usually you get a flurry of big trades leaving the panel with not much to dicuss.

Whitecloud plus a 1st was ####ing amazing value. Thanks again, Vegas.
Edit: and from what we're seeing, Wiebe is also a legit prospect

I have no clue how to value trades - but this thread just took a turn. There's people saying he's a cap dump that requires a first + to get kadri. Then there's people saying his value is so high we'll flip him for another first? I feel like there's going to be some pretty disappointed people here pretty soon...
