Well I assume the Flames are getting more back if they are using Nichushkin as salary dump. Maybe the Avs hold onto some of his money and the Flames can move him in the off-season when you can do the double retention.

Not sure what to make of a naz for nich trade.
Ideally we'd use Kadri to stockpile more futures.
I do like Nichuskin and he's younger (and not signed till 38) but I don't have strong feelings on that swap without knowing what minor pieces would be involved.
If he comes with a 2nd? Maybe.

Yeah I'm assuming Nichushkin is included as the cap dump. Would be something like Nichushkin + 1st + prospect for Kadri. Nichushkin still has 4 years left on his deal, and will be very much an unmovable anchor for at least the next 2, but maybe we can flip him for something in two years.

If we acquire Nichushkin I don't think Conroy would have any interest in retaining on him in a flip. 6.125M AAV through 2030.

Although it's a Russian friendly team, so maybe that could get him to waive.
Kadri (no retention) for Nichushkin + 2027 1st? Nichushkin isn't a cap dump, so I'm not sure Conroy can get much more.
|
I don’t know about that. Looking at teams this offseason and I wouldn’t have pegged the Flames as a trade partner.

Bonus points for no retention and flip Nich or use it on a surprise trade.

I don't hate this. It'd be tough to move Kadri/Coleman and only get one 1st rounder back (although you can build Nichushkin back up and flip him later).

Adding Nichushkin to the return for Kadri seemed like a potential solution to the cap issues, the other day when the rumour of Nichushkin being dealt first surfaced. I'd hope Nichushkin would be viewed as an issue by both sides, such that he wouldn't be the return for Kadri but part of a return that included futures.

I still like my theory of Avs retaining on Nichushkin - that basically means the Avs take on Kadri at a salary similar to if the Flames retain (i.e. they add $4m to their cap)

Would the Avs want Coleman too (to replace Nichuskin)? That would be a huge deal.

The plus better be worth it because I don't like the idea of having somebody of Nichushkin's character on the team.

Feel like you'd maybe need a third team to take Nichushkin.
Nichushkin has Hurricane written all over him as he's an advanced stats darling and they are looking for size and grit.
Nichushkin + 1st to Flames From Colorado
Nichushkin to Carolina for 1st + Kotkaniemi (maybe another piece too)
Flames get 2 1sts + Kotkaniemi for Kadri...that seems pretty fair actually. Kotkaniemi and Nichushkin both have 4 years remaining after this season.

If this happens it makes 2013 dammage79 a very happy draft nerd. I want Nich over pretty much anybody.

Maybe Colorado just wants to move on from Nichushkin because he has been so unreliable at times due to his off ice stuff. I would hope he has that stuff under control now, but man I would be weary of bring in a bad influence to a young team.
If it did happen, I would think the Flames move him somewhere else long before his contract is up.

I’d love that sequence but seems awfully optimistic

Dater had an update saying Nichushkin is almost guaranteed to be dealt before Friday.
Boys I think this is happening.

If you get a guy like Nichushkin, you have to keep all of Weegar, Lomberg, and Whitecloud IMO.
Assign Huberdeau to be Gridin's dad, and keep Gridin away from Nich lol.
