The use of Scientology to facilitate and then cover up the assaults definitely seemed like an aggravating factor in the sentencing, as it should be. It adds another level of power dynamic.

I believe one of the victims, he actually convinced her to become a Scientologist before he raped her. According to Scientology, a boyfriend or husband is unable to rape their partner because they are obligated to give sex on demand. It's also against the cult laws to blame another member for committing a crime (they deny this publicly, but many ex-members have said it is true), so as soon as they complained to the cult leaders, they automatically blamed the victims and protected the perpetrator. The victims were treated as "suppressive persons" and had to take special training.

How's that different than the Catholic Church? You also missed the protecting sexual predators part, which also applies.

I hate this crap to begin with, but I agree with you.
Its just...this is just awful.
And sometimes...and I hate to say it because its not really my ethos, but sometimes you just need a bigger bully.
So the Government giving him 30 years?
He is going to experience the raw power of non-consensual sex. For a very long time.
I take no pleasure in that, but I do hope that its a significant warning that hopefully saves some innocent people who can get on with their lives.

I don't think he will, they won't put him in general population unfortunately. I am not even convinced he won't end up winning an appeal. I have zero faith in the justice system.

You know, the courts may not be working any more, but as long as everyone is videotaping everyone else, justice will be done.

I believe it's actually called the "Penal" system....well it's not, that refers only to the penitentiary system, but it is mor fun to say.

I wonder if at some point Scientology pulled the plug on Danny?
They got caught in their fair play playbook, they hired all the best legal and thugs that money could buy. But in the end, Masterson is a vile human being, and I'm sure in Xenu central they're releived this is off the public scope.
The problem now is if Masterson feels betrayed, he's going to do a jail house interview.

The only way that happens is if he stops paying.
And considering he got turfed from his Netflix show that got canceled(?) it is entirely possible.

Ashton Kutcher and Mia Kunis wrote letters of support for the creep asking for leniency. Crazy.

Almost every member of That 70’s Show cast wrote letters of support to the judge, except Topher Grace, Laura Prepon and Wilmer Valderama (who is problematic enough on his own). Pretty disgusting, but stories are that Masterton was something of a bully on set and Topher wasn’t having it.
