Even though he has a low base salary, Vrbata's bonuses might make it hard for Arizona to move him.

He has already earned $1 million in bonuses (games played and points) and will get $250,000 for making the playoffs and another $250,000 for each playoff round won. I believe that bonuses are all paid in full at the end of the season by the team he ends the season with and I don't believe it would be possible for Arizona to agree to pay the bonuses in a trade.

Because of that, acquiring Vrbata is equivalent to taking on a player with about a $6 million AAV. In terms of real dollars spent, it would be cheaper to take on the remainder of Iginla's contract than Vrbata's.

For a team like Calgary, it would be even worse because you can't use LTIR space for the bonuses, so it would just add to the bonus overage penalty the team will face next season.

Vanek has had an incredible comeback season this year, but from the looks of it he's had a fluky good shooting % & that doesn't bode well for his staying power.

Based on form alone I'd be tempted to take a punt on Vanek, because I think he could snipe a few with 13 & 23 while he has a hot hand, but I think the cost to acquire him would be stupid.

Vrbata is a big no for me. I know a lot of people don't like +/-, but he had a staggering -30 last year. Plenty of Canuck stink on that one.

None of these players inspire anything more than a 'meh' reaction.
