Canadian Aicraft Regulations are pretty exhaustive, Transport Canada gets involved... you'd need a certificate of airworthiness before it could fly again. Without a full tech history for the plane it becomes increasingly impossible. Then, finding Harrier parts... well... display purposes only is probably a good idea.
Re Harrier: Most ex military jets are flying as experimentals. They burn way too much fuel, are very hard to maintain (parts availability), and you can't have bang seats so the safety factor is pretty low. I personally wouldn't fly in one without, but I know lots of guys who do.
Oh and apparently the LOT 787 is coming back later this afternoon on another RAF charter, and there are rumours of a Pullmantur Air 747 also arriving for a charter too.
Ignorant question, but why is a 787 LOT plane chartering for the RAF? Would this sort of service be put out as an RFP, and the lowest bidder would win?
Not sure why they wouldn't keep it in-house and hire BA or something.

They've used UA charters, LOT charters. It's cheaper then flying their own transports in.
There may not have been a RFP, but those airlines/charters offer a cheaper option than flying their own. BA could be, and may be more expensive than UA and LOT.

Thanks, this was very useful. I'm guessing these are pretty lucrative contracts given they're taking the 787 out of regular commercial revenue service.

I believe LOT has been struggling to fully utilize their 787's, thus we see them taking charter jobs like this to up utilization and not have them sitting on the ground making no money at all.

Pretty sure LOT is struggling all around. I wish they'd start flying to Alberta again. Except Calgary this time.
How many 787's do they have in their fleet? I can't imagine they need too many.
Or, as I would write is, "Competent pilot has normal take off that happens to go under a bridge".
Seriously, if he/she had tried to gain altitude before the bridge they would likely have smashed into it. That looked to be the safest option and it looks as though there was a ton of clearance. What a stupid article.
That was awesome, pilot looks to have lifted off and kept the plane in ground effect until clearing the bridge.
Non-issue except for the fact that it may not be a legal place to operate a floatplane. If that is the case you better believe transport is getting involved.
What I can't stand is whenever you see videos like this there's always one nerd who tries to say something witty and sounds like a total nerd. In this video it's the guy who stutters out;
"Arrrd forget the logic!"
Just watch the video again and be as angry at that man as I am, please and thank you.
