And they upped the RAM considerably too. I have a 15 Pro Max so it should be decent but we'll see in December when it becomes available in Canada.

I really like the capture button. It makes the phone more camera-like. It's good that they're working on the action button too. I think it should be able to do a bunch of context-aware, um, actions.

Secrets, secrets, change your language to English (united States) and it works just fine no need to wait until december for it to understand the frenchies.

If I decide to upgrade, what’s the best way to trade in/sell my iPhone 13 Pro Max? Condition is excellent, no damage. Has 128 GB.

Online or in store. If you do it online you have to mail it in which is not ideal. Not sure if the carriers do trade ins.

Might get $400 to $500 for 13 pro max trade in through apple. Would probably get $800 on craigslist of kijijii or some other resell place.

I’ve sold a few things successfully on Kijiji and Marketplace but am nervous about selling a phone that way. I’d probably turn the job over to one of my children. Last time I did this I donated my 10 to my cash-strapped sister.

You can check out your phones value online. Ask a few questions and enter your serial number and they will give you a rough value. My old 13 Pro Max got $480. Of course, that is subject to a physical review which would make in store better. Done at once at least.

Make sure you back up your phone before you do either.

Type in your specs and condition on Apple website. It'll give you a value. But it's better to go to an Apple store to do it as mentioned. Many of their employees will tell you it makes more sense to sell privately as you can typically get 50% more value that way. Apple is more convenient, but you're paying a big premium to go through them.

If you sell privately, bring it to somewhere public like a food court or the Calgary police buy and sell zones. Insist on cash. Don't forget to wipe phone and disable find my phone before selling.

I haven't sold a phone in a while though. I've just done trickle down to my parents and in-laws for almost 5-6 years now.

And don't just trust things go well even if you buy from Apple. Make sure to confirm that all the data is still on the phone after the transition. Heck, if you're not too tech savy it might be a good idea to pay extra for iCloud and upload everything on your phone as a back up just for the period before and after you're doing the transition. This way you can confirm that you don't accidentally lose anything you cannot afford to lose like priceless photos and videos etc.

Thanks. I know all of that except the part about determining the phone’s value.

Does the iPhone 15 Pro run the new Apple AI if the current iOS is installed?

This is my life too.

It's a sick way to justify upgrading your phone more than you need to.

It will yes. The 15 Pro is the lowest end model that will run the new AI. Cannot buy new from apple anymore though. Would need an approved reseller which I assume some Canadian carriers would be. Or used of course.

I'm quite enjoying some of the features of Apple Intelligence, like summarizing text messages in notifications using local processing. It doesn't always get it right yet, but it's usually pretty good. iPhone 15 Pro here.

It summarized a video about Anandtech from LTT called "Linus Tech Tips: The Site That Taught Me Everything is Dead" as "Linus Tech Tips Dead".

I'm going to update to 18.1 right now and try it out on my 15 Pro Max.

There's an option to upgrade to 18.1 right now? I only see a 18.0 option.

You have to have an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, and choose the iOS 18 Developer Beta option (which needs to be opted-in separately from the iOS 18 Public Beta).

I suppose that's a pretty good solution to anybody getting the new phone today that wants to try out all the fun coming next month. It'll be a little buggy for sure, but then it'll be a little buggy on proper launch day too.

Keep in mind its Beta 1 which is basically technically working after some preliminary UAT. I tried it yesterday and yep it has promise but its basic.

Like asking for directions to my kids school. Saying his full name is somehow ignored the fact I had his school address in contacts. Went right to web and wrong school. That is fairly basic I think.

Also with photos, show me pictures of family member name, again tagged, goes to web.

Its got a way to go for sure

Pro tip: I splurged and bought a super high end case of my iPhone Pro 11. The case was just so cool and tactile that I couldn't bring myself to upgrade until now for the iPhone 16 Pro.

This case probably saved me thousands of dollars. Lol. I'm usually a tech guy and like the latest, but the iPhone Pro 11 really delivered with zero problems. Obviously battery life is a little shorter, they charge quickly.

It took me until the iPhone 15 Pro to finally get swayed to upgrade my old iPhone 11 Pro. There just wasn't anything worthwhile for me to upgrade until USB-C.
