I’ve been wondering if Huberdeau will embrace the opportunity to play in Canada but not in Montreal. Because you know (and he surely knows) that if he comes “home” the scrutiny and distractions and pressure to perform probably goes up to 11.
In that sense, Calgary might end up being a good fit. You know, close to home, but not too close

And not a media circus like Toronto.

If he “wants to be the star” then I don’t see a reason he wouldn’t sign in Calgary . What other team in Canada would offer him that other than Winnipeg ?

I think they’d both be crazy not to take big contracts from the Flames. A lot can happen in a year. Look at what Klingberg just had to settle for, and Kadri still looking for a payday.

I agree and how can you turn down 70-80m to play in Calgary, it’s actually really good here.
I think some of these players need to check their privilege.

No, they don’t. You need to check your bias. They’ll sign here if it seems like a good fit for them. You earn that privilege by being in an elite group of people who are the best in the world at their trade. They worked their asses of to get here.

But I don’t believe I’m biased by saying Calgary is a great hockey market and city. It’s fair and reasonable to say Calgary is a good hockey market.
Yes players can go wherever they choose as free agents but there’s a long history of great players and people that have chosen Calgary to play and live even after retirement.
As much as I don’t mind Huberdeau and Weegar so far, I’m betting the Flames are being upfront and honest with them about either signing long term or them being moved quickly.
But what we’ve seen so far from both players and Huberdeau selecting #10 it’s possible they would like to sign here.

Plenty of great players have played in Calgary and have signed long term deals...Calgary lost a UFA and traded one a year out...not the end of the world
Some players like a hockey market some don't
some have money #1 some have winning #1
these guys are all different
Tkachuk didn't even chose Florida...they were on his list but so were other teams

Well that means he chose Florida, not sure why you'd try to spin that otherwise? If he put a handful of teams on a list and got traded to one, yeah that's choosing, lol.

He narrowed it down...posters are going on about weather and night life. Meanwhile he could have ended up in St.Louis if they had the best offer
which he would be fine with for totally different reasons than what is being talked about here...been to NJ in January?

I find it a little strange that Tkachuk doesn't speak much about teammates in his recent interviews. Loved the city and fans. Friends that he made including trainers. But no real mention of missing the teammates. And when asked if Bennie is helping him get settled, he says ya but quickly says he has received lots of calls from current and ex-Florida players.
I've always wondered how close he is with teammates.

I struggle to handle your Flames based views sometimes, lol, especially cause you spin a hundred different ways and move goalposts once you're in a debate. But yeah, all I'm contesting is your assertion that he didn't choose Florida because he submitted a tiny list of teams. That's a bizarre take.
He chose a few select teams for any number of reasons (St. Louis because his family, likely) and the Flames traded him to one of his select teams that he chose and your take away is that he didn't choose the team he was traded to because he also chose a few other teams?
Like, I'm sorry, I don't even know what to say, lol.

I've only really seen the headlines, but all the 'right way' stuff feels like a veiled shot at Johnny (which is BS).

I thought it was also interesting that Tkachuk was not at Monahan’s wedding. Could have easily been a part of the equation of him leaving if he wasn’t close to his teammates. There were lots of current and former teammates there including Gio.

Tkachuk was on vacation in Greece with his family for his parents 50th birthdays. I wouldn't read much into that - I don't think any of the Swedes were at Monahan's wedding either.
On his interview with Ryan Leslie, he said he had (or was planning) facetime chats with everyone on the team.

Okay he didn't choose warm weather and nightlife...like it's being framed in the so called debate. That better?
I think you would be surprised how often I am right about the Flames vs. the usual negative posters.
Bottom 5 team, worse than Seattle, can't replace 115 point scorer, ect.
My "homer takes" have made me a lot of money Betting people on here.

I think Tkachuk’s list was mostly about taxes. But the Venn diagram between warm weather and no taxes has a pretty big overlap.
