... This sucks. It just sucks. Why must Canadian tennis always be a story of missed opportunities and an inability to close?

Come on now, bit of an overreaction don't you think? I mean Bianca closed at IW, the Canadian Open, and the US Open in 2019.

Speaking of not closing though, Ostapenko was running her mouth all week in Eastbourne and then got blitzed 6-3 6-2 in the final by Kvitova.

Good hold by Bianca there to force Garcia to serve it out at 5-4.

This is not the same player as in 2019. That player was downright imperious. I mean Garcia's playing well today but this is not a top 30 opponent she's playing, and failing to close consecutive sets when you're up a break - first by losing four straight games and now, losing 5 of 6 while having to fight tooth and nail to hold every service game - just demonstrates that. The talent is there, but the forehand behind Garcia and wide at 2-0 40-30 is pretty much all you need to see to understand this. This version of Bianca doesn't win another major in her career.

Oh no, Bianca misses the easiest shot of the rally.
Edit: Well, that's one that got away for Bianca, credit to Garcia for hanging in there, but Bianca certainly had more than her fair share of chances to win today. On to SW19.

Bianca is still coming back and has never won a match at Wimbledon. This should all be considered build up for the North American hard court swing. Much like Osaka, Bianca is more of a hard court specialist, which is totally fine, not many players (men or women) can win on all 3 surfaces. She will be in the mix at the US Open.

Canada won the ATP Cup this year and the men have had great results at the Slams this year (Felix was Nadal's toughest test at the FO) Plus Leylah Annie Fernandez just made the US Open final. Lots of positive results for Canadian tennis these past 12 months.

Taylor Fritz takes the title in Eastbourne earlier today over Cressy in three sets. That bottom half of the Wimbledon draw has FAA taking on Cressy in round 1 and Felix could also play Fritz before he faces Rafa.

Djokovic has come out and said he won't be getting the vaccine, so as of now he's not allowed to play the US Open or Cincinnati. I'm not sure what the rules are in Canada but I assume he also can't play Rogers Cup. Dude will be ranked like 20th by end of the year.

Novak prevails in four sets and Hubi won set 3 over ADF so that match continues.
