Also RE: Wrath of Man.
Good mindless self indulgence. Enjoyed it but would put it on the level of John Wick, nowhere close to Heat.

I was still in my dad’s nutsack. I didn’t expect anything.

When you watched it?
I mean I wasn't alive for Jaws but I still expected better when I rented the 2nd.

Actually I just watched first blood part 2 for the first time the other day and I will admit the decline into mindless action was a bit quick. I was expecting more of a bridge to crap, like rocky II.

I haven't tried watching it in many years but I remember hating rocky II. a really bad movie with a fight at the end. boring as all hell.

Rambo II also touched on the cold war and the MIA subject which was still quite en vogue in the early 80's. I remember there were stories of vets who were pretty shook by it and cheering after the closing monologue. This wasn't just mindless action, it was a hero winning one last battle in a lost war. At the time there were still MIA groups lobbying the country to go back there and find POW's.
Times change fast and people forget even faster.

FYI: Movie theatres will be re-opening next week as Alberta moves into the next stage of re-opening...

Good news movie-lovers: Cineplex has announced that it will be reopening its Alberta theatres on Thursday, June 10.
Based on guidelines from local public health authorities, the movie theatres will open at 30% capacity per auditorium. Cineplex will also introduce enhanced safety and cleaning measures and update procedures to allow for physical distancing both inside and outside theatres.
|
I'm not sure the next time I'll be setting foot in a theatre. It will likely have more to do with there not being anything I'm interested in watching than any concerns about COVID. Maybe Black Widow in July, if not then, probably not until the fall.

I've done pretty well throughout COVID, but this is absolutely one thing I have missed the most. And it's the first thing I will be lining up to do.

I hope that they are smart about the opening. Same with the Stampeders games.
One row full, one row empty. Start there.

You can buy tickets for Thursday now.
It looks like when you buy a block of seats, it automatically blocks off the two seats on either side of your seats in the same row as you, and it also blocks off the seats directly in front of and directly behind your seats.

The atom app lets you cancel tickets right up until showtime with no penalty, so I’ve utilized this same strategy for years. People always wondered why I was on an island on opening night in a busy theatre. It’s wonderful.

That... seems like a bit of a dick move, actually.

It’s also a complete fabrication. With recliners I barely notice the people around me, there’s so much more space than in old style theatre seats.

Don't know if you went in 2020 but movie theaters were probably the most sanitary and orderly businesses running covid protocols.
Seat sanitizing machines, directed upon entry and exit, exit routes that ensured you didn't exit where other people were entering, barriers installed, "checkered" seating arrangements.
They handled it like pros and its kind of a shame they were forced to close down as long as they were given the standout job they were doing.
Felt like walking into a lab compared to the grocery/retail stores.

That's how they did it when I saw New Mutants last fall. They didn't block the seats off once picked, they only had a preselected availability of seats that followed the pattern.
It filled up to, I want to say, 30 people by the time the trailers got underway? I was not concerned about social distancing.
