4 mill for a .3 pts per game player seems pretty high especially when he eclipsed 30+ points and 40+ for the first time last year. He's firing at a .5 clip to start but he definitely will regress, I think the biggest killer in this is that term, they will regret thr contract by the 4th or 5th year.

That's not a contract I like but it's not like it was given out by edmonton or something. If the Wings management group was willing to give this guy that contract, they see something in him.
What other struggling teams looking for a shake up would be willing to make a big deal to save their season?

This sentiment drives me crazy.

Yes, the teem has been successful for a long time, and they are well run.

That doesn't mean that they don't make mistakes, and that they are smarter than everyone else on every occasion. So silly.

Colombus, Chicago and Anaheim would be the three that jump out immediately.

Colombus may decide they are too far out of it but I would think either them or Chicago would be spots for a Russell or Wideman if we go that route.

I'm not saying it's a good contract. I actually said I don't like the contract. I didn't say the wings are perfect or that they are smarter than everyone else. It's not HUGE money and he's a younger guy, it could work out or it could be terrible, I just won't say it's terrible for at least a year to see how he plays.
Some of you really need to calm down a bit. I get there is a lot of doom and gloom because the Flames aren't doing well but seriously try to relax a bit.

Jimmy Howard another 4 years at 5.3 million
Henrik Zetterberg, great as he may be will count 6.1 million against the cap as a 40 year old

And of course Stephen Weiss was bought out of his awful contract with 3 years left, believe he was getting around 5 million a year.

Similar AAV to Backlund and better suited to that 3rd line centre role too due to size and physicality.

7 year contracts for 3rd liners are too risky IMO. With a top line player it's okay because if they regress, they might still be a viable top 9 guy. When 3rd liners regress they pretty much are out of the league. It's not like Abdelkader is young either, I think he's 29 or 30.

28, but he'll be 29 when it kicks in. This would be a bad deal if it happens... not horrifically bad but definetly something that they ought avoid.

Throw in Colorado and Philly. On the outside you have tb Boston and sj. Sj has to be sweating as their first that they traded to Boston may end up being Auston Matthews.

Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockeyMcKenzie: I think #Flames would like to make a deal, but they're not quite sure where to go and have been dealing from position of weakness.

Part of the reason why he signed in Colorado for 3 years. Wanted stability.

If you read the articles from this last offseason and last year's off season.... I very much doubt he would waive his NTC, and it appears he will stay in Colorado for the term of his contract. I don't think he takes a 3 year deal if he's looking to just tag a ride for the cup.

interesting McKenzie says Roy doesn't like Duchene.

Going to be so strange if the Avs trade him. They will go from having the deepest center group in Stastny, O'Reilly, Duchene, MacKinnon to MacKinnon, Soderberg, Grigorenko
