"I am actually more excited for the Oilers game tomorrow than the Flames game. I am praying for multiple jersey tosses. The Oilers are my new favourite team for all the wrong reasons. I hate them so much I love them."
So the difference between 385 and 390 is that big? I'm having a hard time progressing past 385, but was thinking of trying out hard mode this weekend.
Seriously!
Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but before Rise of Iron I don't remember engram decryption being capped below the level cap.
I feel like I'm having to rely on faction packages to bridge the gap between the 385 engram cap and the 390 needed for hard mode.

ya faction rep + AF + exotics + NF and hard raid are only ways past 385
There's no question it's doable before 390, but the question is how long you want a run to take. 390+ should go relatively smoothly, making for a quick and efficient run. Anything less introduces a lot of additional cheap deaths from adds and with no revives in HM, cheap deaths equal a lot of wiping.
Hit 400 last night, with 4/5 Splicer set. Feels good to have made it through this xpac and honestly just go back to playing a bit more casually. Looking forward to challenge modes and more casual fun raiding.

It's not. 385 is more then good enough to make it through hard mode. When I first ran it we were all below 390 and finished in a couple of hours. Only struggled because we didn't know the new mechanics yet.
Where people struggle is on ad control, awareness, and thinking they have less time then they actually do.

Just cleared HM and it was pretty fun. The ads at Vosik were pretty crazy and we spent the longest there. Actually thought Askis was not that much harder, though the turrets messed me up a few times.
Got my helmet though and gain 3 light levels, so I'm pretty happy with that.

Just got back from vacation on Thursday. Finished HM with a team of 385-391 on Friday. Hardest part was Vosik. Still only took a couple hours. Mind you I think it's quite different running with a dedicated raid team rather than a group of randos.
Anyone available to join me for the final step of Outbreak Prime quest? Just need to punch in the last code and I'm finally done. Message me on rollbomb (PS4).
Edit: LFG'd last night. Took about an hour and a half to find a hunter on the same step, but gun is pretty sweet!

Challenge mode for Vosik dropped somewhat unexpectedly today. Still a bit fuzzy but it looks like this is what is required:
-The bombs that drop at the end of the DPS phase must be used to lock the safe room
-2 safe rooms must be used for each DPS phase (since there are two bombs dropped at the end of the DPS phase, each one must be used to close the door
-All 4 rooms must be used before Vosik goes down (i.e you need exactly 3 DPS phases)
So it looks like the fight will be as follows: adds, DPS, 2 safe rooms, adds, DPS, 2 safe rooms, adds, DPS to kill
Also seems you need to be 390 LL or higher to one shot the door with a bomb.

Bomb damage scales with LL? Is that in all versions of the raid? Is that just a standard thing that applies to all similar situations in Destiny, and I've just been oblivious to it? Are there any more questions I can think of to add to this? Should I pick up cat food tonight on the way home in traffic, or just get it later on in the evening when things die down?

Bomb damage: I'm not sure, but that's just what is being reported on reddit. I don't think it scales when throwing at Vosik, but maybe it scales with throwing at non-boss items?
Raid damage: Yes, your light level (and in VoG / Crota just your level) scales damage depending on the recommended light level for the fight. That's why the end fights are tougher for the lower light level people - the recommended light level goes up with each encounter, so as the raid progresses you do less damage and get more squishy
All damage: Yes, your light level scales damage and how hard damage hits you. Again - it all matters what the recommended light level is. If you are above the recommended level, no scaling. Under the recommended level, there is scaling.
Cat food: Pick it up on the way home. It might feel like it takes longer in traffic, but it's much better than having to go out again later in the evening, especially with a Flames game starting at 6:30 tonight.
