The age thing was my favourite, personally. Poster clearly rounds up and down in different directions to support the narrative he's pushing, gets a quick, innocent correction from Bingo and goes off the rails for 4 pages of defence against everyone.
It was nice.
I think I started the whole thing, with the first call out.
I want my credit for innocently blowing this thread up.

None of that came off very well from anyone, lol. We just had two posters confidently describe how much money they make and how amazing they are as the grand finale to an argument already off the rails in absurdity.
I agree with others though, I want more of that. It's fun to read during the offseason. Doesn't look like we'll get much happening with our new pick ups until late August anyways.
Hey, I make lots of money, I am too a real doctor (said no actual doctor, ever), but I only do this from a completely altruistic place…

If we don’t have a FOI thread soon where everyone is posting their T4 slips then what is the point of keeping this place open in August? The prospect ranking so I can just vote for “Whynot” every round?
Nah, let’s go folks. Bonus points for post secondary degrees/diplomas/certifications (Devry don’t count).

I don’t have T4s anymore, so I’m at a disadvantage there.
What about most years of full time post secondary to complete undergrad?
I did 6.5…

Reminds me of when I was younger and fresh out of post secondary. One 9f my best friends was still doing residencies back then and his other classmates would love to find a way to bring up the fact that they are in med school when meeting people lol.

Easy to imagine if they were just any nameless team. But this is Columbus. How many years since its inception has Columbus outperformed Calgary?
18-19 in the year of the upsets, although Calgary finished significantly higher in the standings. Aside from that..........
To say Columbus will revamp its long-held and well-earned identity of mediocrity suddenly when Sillinger? And Roslovic are the guys centering its top lines going forward, I think I'm scratching my head at that suggestion, at least at how things looks presently.
Flames have to do some work with contracts but their cap ability next offseason is worth making note of. They're already good (especially in relation to their division) even after the swaps made, but can also bolster their team by learning from their previous cap spending missteps and adding significant forward skill next year.
If the Tkachuk deal went south as most expected I'd agree wholeheartedly, but this whale of a trade was a fate-changer.
Flames gained 5 years of competitive sustainability to their future if they do well with the parts from this deal and take advantage of the upcoming cap flexibility. They also have their 1st rounders moving forward including in an elite draft so I don't see why they can't stockpile and reinforce their team a few years down the road as well.
People so quick to deem a perpetually underperforming club future juggernauts when they're not even a perrenial cap spending team always leaves me raising an eyebrow.
I just don't see a lot of difference between clubs #17 through 31 (leaving a special place in hell for the Oilers) in terms of general competitiveness over the past decade or two.
Here are 4 somewhat random teams in the throws of perpetual mediocrity/disappointment in the last 10 seasons:
Spoiler!
CBJ - best three seasons: 108 pts, 98 pts, 97 pts; 5 playoffs; 12 po wins, 1 rd win***
TOR - 115 pts, 105pts, 100pts; 6 playoffs; 17 po wins; 0 rd wins
*quali rd excluded (CGY/CBJ won; TOR/FLA lost)
**Panthers made the po's 11 years ago = excluded above; TOR made the playoffs 10 years ago (included above) and then missed three times
CBJ has the highest watermark of these 4 by getting to R2G6 against BOS in 2019.
CGY has won the most rounds.
FLA has the best regular season
TOR has the most playoff appearances and wins
The three teams other than CBJ are poised to be more competitive in the short-term, but face significant contract issues in the nest 2-3 years.
I just don't see a significant difference in recent team history/institutional memory when it comes to winning, and I'd struggle to rate any franchise as more/less futile than the others...

I am going to kick the dead horse regarding age. Whether it is 4 or 5 years, we are talking about the 4 or 5 middle years of a player's career. Typically, the peak years. Seven or 8 year deals for either Huberdeau or Weegar are most likely going to be anchors with negative trade value for the latter halves of the contracts. Unless Tkachuk completely face plants, his contract should at least be market value for the full 8 years and should have great trade value.
Everything is a gamble of course, but just basing this on likelihoods. Huberdeau and Weegar could buck the trends and it wouldn't be absolutely shocking if one of them did, I just don't see it as likely or a good strategy to expect it.
Side note... Looking at Youtube clips of Weegar, he seems like a bit of a hothead that can piss off referees. I think there are at least two separate recent incidents where he was penalized or ejected for throwing fits, one where he swung his stick at an official. Given how the Flames seem to be under the microscope, I hope he can keep himself composed especially in BoA games where the refs will take any excuse to give the Oilers long powerplays.

The 24.6 year old wanted to leave.
That's the bottom line.
So you go out and get the best deal possible.
If that's Huberdeau signed until he's 37 it's not ideal, but it's still better than getting a terrible package.
If that's Huberdeau moved for a 1st and a 2nd no worries ... team is decimated, but you have two firsts, a prospect, a 2nd and Weegar.
The asset haul was great, no do the right thing.

I agree, management made out well in a bad situation. Their hand was forced and likely made the best choice they could. Just trying to take an objective overview of where the team now stands and I don't think the state of the team in the long term is better off than it was before Tkachuk decided to leave. At least not enough to make me less anxious. Like you said though, there are still a lot of moving parts so I won't say anything definitive until we have the bigger picture. This deal won't be able to be fairly analyzed for several years.

Tough to categorize this trade as anything but a win even if the future is murky.

At one point they refer to trading Weegar as losing a "a right handed Devon Toews", followed by lots of gushing about how good the Flames D will be.
Interesting that he says he heard whispers from his Florida contacts earlier in the summer that the Panthers were not going to extend Huberdeau. If that is true, it make even more sense from Florida's perspective to trade him.

Interesting they also talk about how Huberdeau is rare within the NHL in that he "wants to be the star", and thinks he'll be comfortable and enjoy the pressure of a Canadian market in way that the majority of NHL players wouldn't.
"I think he's going to be a tremendous fit for Calgary".
