Wife just called and said that the train she is on to Ternopol is some kind of special emergency evacuation train and a different route than what is shown on Google maps.. She confirmed it does not stop in Kyiv and she does not have to transfer (thank god). Just has to stay put.
Not sure the exact route, but hopefully it all goes well. She said the train is packed with children and has no toilets, but at least they are handing out water. She estimates it will be a 20 hours trip due to the train being a lot slower than a standard train.
They aren't sure where they are going to go when they arrive, but I read on some websites that schools and malls were hosting people arriving.
I consider today's news nothing short of a miracle, given her situation the past couple days. Fingers crossed all goes well from this point onward.

I'm hoping the Canadian farmers have a better year weather wise, as we can absolutely make a big difference on the commodity side.
Canada is always on the forefront of agriculture development, and there are a lot of exciting projects in the works. Now we'll need it more than ever.

Manitobans can sign up to host displaced Ukrainians.

I'm assuming other provinces will also have programs in place.

Cliff's comment was regarding trained Canadian & Israeli soldiers and whether they would be of any use beyond guarding "stuff".
Comparing a WW2 grunt to a modern day grunt isn't really fair.
Modern day infantry need to more training to handle weapons systems, further the physicals demands are greater.
WW2 average combat load 68lbs
Modern Soldier combat load is 96lbs (if you are lucky)
Trained soldiers showing up in Ukraine = good. They will immediately slot into the Order of Battle and will most likely have a positive impact on the battlefield.
Untrained civilians showing up in Ukraine = potentially not good. They can't be slotted in, they can't even handle weapons and would have zero knowledge of tactics on a fireteam level or greater.

Talks about efforts made by US & allies to train the Ukrainian military the past few years. Canada has been a major part of that effort. Our SOF community has had a direct impact on this war, and it must be heartening for the members to see the difference they have been able to made after the debacle in Afghanistan. We're small, but we pack a big punch.

It is something Canada has been doing for a while, which many Canadians might not know.
Canada is very good a providing this type of support/training.
I was in with a guy that did a tour for 1 year I think in Africa as part of a Training Cadre. Edit it was Sierra Leone 2012.
Here are the boys during Remembrance Day
Also shout out to the hard charger in the middle of this photo. Somethings never change.

MOD map updates for the day. Near Kyiv, Russian Central MD grouping has pushed further south during the day near to the border, but yesterday's thrust south of Chernikiv along the roads appears to have been cut off by Ukrainian counter attacks; leaving a pocket of Russian control along the roads cut off waiting for reinforcements by either the Central or Western MD grouping. Russia's Southern MD grouping and airborne seems have continued their NW thrust past Mykolaiv seemingly intent on attacking the Yuzhnoukransk nuclear power plant and are now within 20KM of that one, cuz the last attack on the Zaporizhzia NPP went so well.

Ukrainian vs. Russian translated spellings of the city. I've switched to mostly the Ukrainian spellings for support.
