Just a suggestion for anyone that sees a block fall from the sky and wonder wants up there, think about "do I have a way to get back down" before you try... Took me 20 minutes of tries to get down, though I guess I could have fast travelled away but still.
But yeah the building is growing on me a bit, though it does feel like you can cheeze some stuff but I guess that's my choice.. either cheeze it with a LOT of logs or do it the "right" way lol.
I can't remember if BotW combat was this hard and I just need to re-learn how to fight or if I'm just too weak yet but I get one shotted a lot.
I didn't have the glider yet, and was just a few feet too far away from a river.. left a lot of faceprints in the sand.
But yeah teleport would have worked but I hadn't been to a shrine yet so I would have teleported way back up to the sky.
Eventually I got onto one of the wing things and glided down but it took me a bit to figure out how to use ultrahand and rewind to get the wing into the air and me on it.

I'm getting a feeling that building is a big integral part of the game? Not sure how much I like that.
This is how I felt in the beginning but I've definitely warmed up to it. Did a shrine last night where you do a simple build to get past an obstacle and ended up spending extra time to deck out my ride before making the trip.
Not really a spoiler as it's a game mechanic but I'll hide it anyway:
Spoiler!
You get a really great power in the depths that lets you autobuild your previous creations. You can build simple devices and then favorite them and when you get to a build location you can instantly recall them from pieces lying around. You also unlcok build scematics for some pretty neat devices as well.
Overall I was a bit luke warm on this one in the beginning but I'm fully invested now. The new mechanics are so well done and the new areas (Depths and Sky) are fun to explore. They did a great job at making it feel like a true sequel that builds on the bones of the original. Really loving it now.

Yeah I think I'm on board with the building. The only downside is that building takes time and this game already seems like it's going to take forever to complete lol.
But the building does let you do stuff like this so hard to complain.

After the long weekend I'm just getting close to 40 hours play time and this game is really a masterpiece. It feels like I've seen maybe 20% of what there is to offer - it's huge and exciting, there's so many quests and storylines and great rewards, so many mysteries to uncover and so much to explore. How many times I'm just like "oh I'll just check out this little well / cave entrance" and end up in some giant catacomb exploring for 40 minutes. Or the entire creepy underground, or the sky islands that I really haven't explored much beyond some of the story missions that take you up there. The building is a blast and I keep coming up with fun ways to solve puzzles and get around the world (and launch Koroks around). I can't stress enough how impressed I am with this game -- and my expectations were extremely high, it's surpassed them.
I just realized that you can use those large floaty blocks in the sky islands to get around them. I wanted to get from one that I was on to another about the same level, so I put a few rockets on the block and it pushed me a good chunk of the way there, then I put fans on it to get the rest of the way.
I need to get more battery, then I could use fans to get a lot further.
The videos on people's devices is endless hilarity. One guy built a kill box, literally. A square thing with a roof and on the inside is the fire and laser emitters pointing inwards. Drop the box over a bunch of enemies and turn it on, they all run around screaming and dying.

Best Zelda of all time. I have still barely touched on the main story because of how much fun the world is. The new mechanics they introduced have made everything much more creative and fun.
I wonder if we'll ever see a battle royale style game set in Hyrule. They have so many of the pieces to make that work now. It could be totally crazy in a Zelda world and would be perfect for streaming and play with me gaming culture.
Although it took Nintendo ages to get this shipped, I admire the combination of obvious love and respect for the Zelda franchise and gamers that grew up with it along with careful consideration about how to keep it modern and bring in new generations and newer gaming culture. It is a masterpiece.

So good. My only complaint so far is I wish there was a way to trigger the sage powers remotely with some kind of controller input. When I want them they're all running around in a giant group of mobs.

The drops you get depends on your level. There's no visible level, but apparently the way it works behind the scenes is the game keeps track of how many of each type of mob you kill. So kill 10 bokoblins, 10 blue bokolibns, 10 moblins, etc etc
Of course the more you kill the more it'll spawn higher level mobs but you'll get stronger base weapons, but the real power isn't the weapons it's what you fuse to it. Swords start out at attack 4 or 6, but even the best ones only get up into the 20's unless you're talking about legendary swords. Fusing a diamond onto one will get +25, and lots of mob parts will give a lot more than that.

I’d prefer one-handed weapons over two, like most of the fused weapons become. I find them a little clumsier when trying to defend or hit an opponent faster without leaving yourself open to a hit.
I just finished the main quest and am super impressed with the game overall. A step up from botw. The storyline in this game is much more compelling, and the way it culminates in the final boss battle is substantially more satisfying than botw which didn't really have much of a story to add any emotional depth to it.
They clearly took fan criticism to heart and responded to it in this game.
As I was going through the final boss battle and the ending sequence, I was thinking how crazy and cool it is that Nintendo started off as just a company making packs of playing cards, and now they make stuff like this. Pretty awesome.

I am still waiting for a good sword. I have been spending the whole time trying to map out the underworld, and I am getting killed by everything.
I know there’s no ‘right’ way to play TotK but this just seems really inefficient, lol. Especially since there’s no shrines to get upgrades from, and a number of underground areas are gates off to story progression…

Yeah, I know. I just like exploring. The underground is just too neat to stop rummaging around in. I’ve grown kind of obsessed with activating the lightroots.
I started at least getting the lightroot for a shrine when there's a way down nearby.. near one found this scary huge bug like thing with an eye on top, gave that a pass for now.
I'm going to get more battery space before I explore the underground in earnest, I can't fly my little flight scooter for very long and I'd like the option to fly up or around.
