You could just attach cup holders directly onto the back of the seat in front of you. Boom no seating issue.

The Dallas situation is probably propaganda to sell tickets. Look at how much more room you get!!!

Global News has a story coming up during the lunch hour news talking about how CalgaryNext is apparently close to being shelved and what Plan B is.

Hopefully there will be some new revelations in their story.

Edit: It sounds like they are reporting that the Mayor has said this morning that in this economy CalgaryNext is dead. Ken King commented that they are not fully ready to put a nail in the coffin but he doesn't disagree with the Mayor.

I apologize in advance if this has been asked before but when can we expect to hear about the plans for this "Plan B"?

Pretty soon. It's pretty clear that the CSEC is going to go along with the city's desire for a new arena in Victoria Park/Stampede.

Its what you call a bait and switch. Put out an idea do bad that it is uniformally rejected and makes no economic sense for the city that even the most diehards have a tough time supporting it. Then once it gets rejected put out the beautifully crafted plan B that people say we can afford this.

You will be able to tell by the quality of renderings compared to CalgaryNext if this was a sham all along.

The Stampede Park/Victoria Park area still seems like a congestion spot. Hope they can figure it all out but I'm not holding my breath.

Exactly, I use to pull that crap with my dad all the time. Dad can I borrow 100 bucks? What!??. Sorry my bad, actually all I need is a 20. Oh sure here you go, son.

If the city was smart they would:

1) Integrate the green line with the new stadium: Have the line stop inside the Plan B stadium before going on to Inglewood

2) Redo the South leg of the red line and move the Earlton and Stampede stations to stop in the Beltline and in Mission before the 39th avenue station

Love this. Hope the economics of the new plan are better for the tax payer, but I won't hold my breath.

At least the location is better.

So much for all the posters who said "might as well accept CalgaryNEXT is going to happen in the WV".

The ol' door-in-the-face technique.

Isn't that the root of the WV proposal being rejected? So the next version will be cheaper & better for the tax payer?

Yup, been thinking this exact same thing. The whole CalgaryNEXT just seemed so amateur of a proposal. I'm guessing it was a bait and switch tactic all along.

To be honest, I'd much rather have it near it's current location. Just parking and traffic will be way easier than the gongshow that would have been West Village.

Gotta be a negotiating tactic. CalgaryNext was such a bad idea, supported with bad economics and bad renderings, you know they weren't serious about it. You'd engage the city at least a tiny bit before going in on a real plan.

I think you guys are giving Ken and the gang a little too much credit to think that this was the plan all along....

Parking and traffic are a mess where it is now, and the new location would (I assume) be where current parking is. I'm not saying WV is better, but on that front, I'm not sure there's a vast improvement.

This is all about whether ther city would contribute. It won't so they have to try on more traditional lease footing (and the WV lands will continue to deteriorate).

Selfishly, I want where it is now as I have it down perfectly for myself right now by parking along 10th Ave. It's away from traffic where I can get back onto Mcleod and then to Memorial without fighting all the cars leaving the Dome.

I don't park there myself anyway. I suppose the very minor inconvenience in the present location is that I transfer trains.

I guess there is some positive news to come out of this economic downturn after all.

Curious as to why you think the location is better?

It is a clusterf#ck getting in and out of the current facility now, and the addition of the Green Line won't fundamentally change that. There is no major east-west road in and out of that location, which is currently a major negative. Also, it isn't any closer to the main river paths than it is now.

The west end location is so much better from a transportation standpoint, and it's not even close.
