Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Listening to Friedman on the Fan today and I was thinking about the goalie situation. While the Flames could probably put together a package of picks for Bishop, what would he command salary wise the year after next? Could it be closer to $8m? While they may have to pony up and additional pick or prospect to make a deal with Anaheim, Andersen would probably cost a fraction of that. Closer to $3m. Thoughts?

That would be a pretty sweet outcome on draft day.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Hayes
Colborne - Bennett - Laine
Frolik - Backlund - Pribyl
Ferland - Stajan - Bouma
Suddenly our forward group isn't that small anymore, and we have a strong goalie.
One can dream.

I think that's possibly the best possible outcome.
I'd settle for any part of that really.

I think Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy know a thing or two about winning, if there's ever any concern.

I think it depends on how far Andersen takes the Dicks in the playoffs. If they win the Cup or even get to the finals on his back he is going to cost a lot more.

Makes you appreciate how quickly Burke shot down "Conroy for GM" a few years back.

I think if it's Andersen you are looking at between $5M & $6M for a cap hit, and for Bishop it's between $6 & $7M - rare for goalies to make above $7M in the NHL today.

My thoughts are Andersen likely gets moved to the Islanders or Leafs as they both need starting goalies. Unless the Flames overpay I don't see the Ducks trading him in the division

Yeah I don't see Anderson being an option unless the Flames are willing to severely overpay. If the Sharks can finish the job on the Kings, Bob Murray doesn't have to look far to see that you can be haunted by an ex-goaltender being shipped within the division.

The goalie situation is so fluid, but depending on the expansion draft, there could be a number of intriguing options. Ducks might need to move one of Andersen/Gibson. If not in-division, then there is Fleury/Murray, Bishop/Vasilevsky. With Elliot playing so well, do the Blues move Allen? Throw in a few workable UFAs, and the Flames situation pretty much has to be better than last year, at likely a better price.

Is it a money thing with Bishop in Tampa or is Vasilevskiy that close?
He pretty much won them that game last night against Detroit.

The thought was it is a money thing combined with the risk of an expansion draft but Friedman was saying that may change.
He was team MVP this year and it appears that the team may need him more than Stamkos in order to succeed.
If Stamkos ends up leaving then it is doubtful that Bishop gets moved IMO.

The Islanders have 2 starters - Halak and Greiss. They would be shedding a goalie before adding one, or rolling with a 1a/1b model

I imagine they would get permission to work out an extension with Bishop prior to a trade. I don't mind giving up assets to aquire him if we have him for another 4 years.

4 years seems like a short contract for him to sign. Not saying impossible but usually guys in that position will push for 6-7 years

He'll be on the back half of 30 years old when his next contract kicks in, I wouldn't do 6-7 years. Plus we will hopefully have some tending coming down the pipe in a few years if Gilles or MacDonald pan out.

I have a feeling Bishop is going to be one of the hardest hit by the new goalie equipment rules. I'd rather not trade for him, at least not before seeing how the changes affect him.

This sentiment is out there but if you saw last nights game you would change your opinion.
His lateral movement was crisp and quick. He stopped 3 breakaways.
Friedman said this morning that he and everyone thought Bishop would be the odd man out but if he continues to play like this then Yzerman might just keep him. Proven thing over what might be.
