What a fantastic episode that was, I thought last years finale was the excellent, but this one even topped it.
Stoked for the finale like everyone else.
I must say Stephen Graham plays a great Al Capone, down to all his mannerisms and unique behaviors. Even De Niro wasn't capable of filling Capone's shoes in The Untouchables, so Graham is doing some fantastic work.
When Boardwalk Empire is on its game I honestly think its the best show on television today. It has the potential of reaching the heights of The Sopranos imo if they can give it another 2-3 seasons.
Props to Michael Kenneth Williams (Chalkie White) for being part of two of the greatest shows of all time as well. Although nothing he can do could beat the greatness that was Omar Little.
Boardwalk Empire has some of the slowest episodes of any show i've watched. but once the set pieces are in place, damn does it ever get good
I don't think I'm arguing with you so much as expanding, but without the Margaret episodes setting up her relationship with Sleater, his death wouldn't have had that impact, and without the Gillian scenes, there would be no Harrow arc.
They pay off episodes have so much impact because the show takes the time to tell character stories.

that's what i'm referring to. the show takes longer than any other to put the pieces in place and tell each character's story, and the late season payoff is incredible because of it. it's the opposite of regular network TV dramas that try to cram plot twists and big events into every episode to try and keep you watching
it's like the networks are your children's school play, and HBO is Broadway. The Wire was very similar in how long everything took to build up, and is a modern classic now because HBO let the creator tell the story that he wanted to. i see Boardwalk Empire going down that same route

I like Boardwalk a lot, but one of the greatest of all time? I'm not prepared to make that statement......yet.
Boardwalk as of right now, doesn't come close to the Wire or Sopranos who are on a whole different level of TV greatness.

Its strictly a matter of opinion.
While I very much enjoyed the Wire, I also find that show to be one of the most overrated shows of all time as well. Some people say its by far the best show ever like its a fact. No, that is opinion. Personally, I've liked plenty of shows more so than The Wire.
Sopranos, Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad & Oz just to name a few. While I wouldn't include Boardwalk Empire in that list just yet, I'm certainly not going to question someone that feels it is equally as good as the Wire... its not like he's saying Revolution or True Blood.

So what did people think of the finale? I think it fell a little short... maybe cause the last episode was so good... they kind of skipped through the whole "war...." that could of been a whole season right there... interested in what others thought of it...

I did feel a little let down as well. They showed Capone and Chalky arguing with each other as much as they showed the fighting with Gyp's crew. Harrow was just pure awesome though. Nice to see him get a bit of respect from his old lady's dad as well. And hopefully Margaret doesn't come back, I certainly won't miss her.

I though he was having a heart attack on the beach. Let down by the episode a bit too, but that's a constraint of budget. The Harrow scene was amazing as expected, it's too bad he couldn't have ended up with happiness. I assume the entire Darmoty related line of the story is dead now and we won't be seeing Harrow again.
