Finally saw the movie this weekend. Very entertaining, though I found the numerous gun battles and fights with projections tedious, and there were some big logical plot problems (but I was willing to suspend my disbelief).
How can the builder design the structure of the dreamer's dream? Shouldn't a dreamer be able to manipulate the structure of his own dream any way he wants?
I lean towards the ending still being a dream. It seemed strange that all Leo needed to walk back into his home was a crooked customs officer? Wasn't he considered the murderer of his wife? He can't just walk back into his house like nothing happened?

It wasn't the customs guy (as Cobb would have no idea which one to go to), the implication was that his entire criminal record was cleared. Presumably this had an immediate effect as the CBP/TSA folks seemingly had no notion he was a wanted man only a few minutes prior. That's a little hand-wavey, but maybe the Japanese dude called a DB admin at the CIA who owed him a favour or something.

Yes, that could be. But even if the criminal record was cleared, how could the in-laws so easily forget? The children reacted like he hadn't been gone for long at all. None of it felt "real".
Trivia - Adriane is likely named for the character that helped Theseus out of the Minotaur's maze. A couple of times I was reminded of 2001, like when the rich son entered his father's vault - it felt like Dave eating alone in the room after crossing beyond the infinite.

I completely agree. There was far too many tedious gunfights and repetitive action sequences when they had so much material to work with.
The ending wrapped up too neatly and is far too happy for the general tone of the film. For myself, it's definetely an idyllic dream just like how the ending of Minority Report didn't actually happen and Tom Cruise's character is actually still in a coma in the prison dreaming that all his deep-seated desires for justice and absolution came true in a picture-perfect ending.

Robert Fischer is named for Bobby Fisher, although I'm not sure if there is any significance behind that.

If the totem's unique feel and weight is only known to it's owner, what happens if the owner is dreaming in his own dream? He would know how the totem feels to himself in his own mind. If he was dreaming his own dream, there would be no way to know and therefore no escape.

Didn't Cobb have a fake Australian passport at the end?

Don't think so, the custom agent says 'Welcome home' and then stamps his passport. This is one of the errors though, as you don't get your passport stamped on entry to your home country.
The key is the wedding ring. Cobb is always wearing it in dreams but not in reall life. i have seen it three times and haven't had a clear view of his hand after he wakes on the plane. I think it's intentionally hidden so we just never know for sure.
If the ending is a dream though, how did he leave limbo?

Am I the only one that doesn't want to know whether it was a dream or not? I loved the way they ended the movie and I prefer to just be left in the mystery.

Except they left a big door open for a sequel.

I doubt they do a sequel. Nolan is the type of director that doesn't make a sequel unless he thinks it's warranted. It took him a long time to decide whether or not he had a good enough story for Batman 3. He won't be the one to pander to the execs just because they want to make money. In fact I can't think of any movie Nolan has done a sequel to other than the Batman franchise.

They are aren't they. It's a fun movie to turn around in you head, but at the end when you choose an answer it isn't hard to manipulate the many possible meanings to fit your choice.
I think that is one of it's greatest assets, yet I view the mostly redundant gun play to be one of it's biggest faults. There are probably 10k+ shots fired in the movie and only 1 hits an actual character. The Rambo effect wasn't necessary to hold my attention.
But as Flames89 said, this movie was completely worth it's ticket price. And he's right, it's been a while since I said that either.

One that was really happy with the finale, though.
I like being posed with a question and being able to talk about it with friends and/or strangers and be able to interpret it a number of different ways, rather than be given an answer that I may or may not be happy with just for the sake of it (at least, in a movie like Inception or a show like Lost -- it's far better than the Matrix method). In my mind, Nolan purposely left the ending cryptic specifically so we would pose the question to ourselves, "what is reality?" My opinion of it is that he wanted us to ask ourselves that, not try to work it out just in the vacuum of the little world in the movie. I think it lends itself to a far more interesting debate that way.

I woke up from my nap today that was 3 levels of dreams. I am not kidding either. It was crazy. I wrote it all down so I would never forget.
