No kidding.

And now he decides to mention Adam Henrique winning the MVP for the OHL, when he couldn't be bothered to do it at that last game. What a huge jerk he is.

Way to give the Memorial Cup to Mississauga for money too!!

See you at the parade tomorrow Spitfires!!!!!!

Does it really matter, maybe we put too much prestige on the Mem cup. By giving the host team a bye it turns it into an invitational, or an exhibition tournament. The three league champions should celebrate their well earned titles. Weak host team or not, the best team usually wins the Mem anyway. Sucks for Calgary getting bounced but they wouldn't have fared much better.

Because it's the CHL if you don't have the host team garrantee the tournament will have serious attendance issues. How many of us follow it after our teams are bounced? Other than the highlights.

Actually, when the CAHA moved from an East vs West format to a three-team tournament in 1971 attendance went higher, even though the tournament was typically held in a neutral location.

I don't know how you can have the format to have the best teams? Could you have more teams and make it a money-making cash-cow like the insane NCAA basketball tournament? But then you'd get a Vancouver in the final maybe (like Butler)

Do you think that would happen today though? This is only the CHL. I'm not going to buy tickets ahead of time hoping my team makes it. People don't pay above face to get tickets once their team gets in. (no jokes about them never getting in please)

The Memorial Cup has grown into much more of an event than it was back in the day, so yeah, I think people would pay to watch a battle of champions in a neutral location. The three-team tournament was necessitated by the reorganization of junior hockey in 1971. The four team tournament was organized a decade later for revenue reasons. It is what it is.

Anyway, congrats to Martin Jones, who was named the top goaltender of the tournament, and both he and Bubnick were named tournament all-stars. I suspect Jones' performance in the semifinal alone was enough to win the award.

When the MC was in Vancouver, there were tons of people giving away tickets outside for the games not involving the Giants.

Yeah, but they've got other entertainment options. Would it be the same in a smaller city or town?
