The article was posted last week. Great read that has generated lots of debate in Twitter land. According to tweets from Peter King the voters for the HOF are only supposed to consider on field accomplishments. He was asked if he would vote for OJ if the murder of his wife had happened before his enshrinement and he said "absolutely!".

Yeah, the whole, "Should off field exploits be considered in HOF voting" is an interesting question.
What about a player that didn't quite have a HOF career but then devoted himself to selfless and charitable acts? If evil can keep you out, can good make the difference and get you in?

It shouldn't in my opinion. The HOF should be reserved for the games great players period. Not players who did great things off the field.

So just to clarify, you agree with Peter King - the HOF should be blind to anything off the field. Correct?

Bucky Brooks of nfl.com puts out his first mock draft. The top 10 is pretty much offensive and defensive lineman with an edge rushers for a 3-4 scheme. His first and only QB of the first round is Bradford down at 26. He puts Dez Bryant at 21 to the Bengals as the top WR.
Somehow I don't see it playing out that way.
Agreed. I think the first 3 picks are on the nose, after that....
For instance, if Eric Berry is there when the Broncos pick and they don't take him? Yes, I've seen McClain as the pick in every mock so far but the Broncos secondary needs the youth far more than the LB corps.

That's why they got McBath and Bruton, both of whom looked pretty good for young guys. McBath especially before the broken forearm.
I don't see McClain getting picked, is he really going to start over DJ or Davis? With how it looks there I wouldn't be surprised to see them trade back and go O line / D line in the 1st and 2nd.

as a bronco fan, you can continually watch Hoodie Jr. run players out of that organization, but i guess he is such a genius, he will turn Orton into the next Brady... Broncos are in a lot worse situation than the choking Chargers
OK, obviously you don't like the Broncos. That's cool. "Continually watch him run players out of town?". He culled a terrible D that needed it, got rid of Jeff George Jr. and is now having issues with me first Marshall and Scheffler. Marshall, yeah that sucks but he is a bit of a headcase. Scheffler isn't a weapon for this kind of offense, losing him is tough but he'll do well somewhere else. Scheffler got a raw deal but hey this is the NFL, tough luck kid.
No one has said Orton is the next Brady. The Broncos were in a bad situation before McDaniels got here, and I'm glad he's turning the culture around. Shanahan had this city eating out of his hand on the memories of Superbowls past and his monumental one playoff win without Elway speaks to his "genius". He was a nice guy, most fans loved him, and his defenses got worse every single year.
I have faith in McDaniels and maybe his kind of coaching and attitude is what this team needs. I'm willing to give him a few years to get his staff in place, his scheme going and his culture in place. He has the pedigree, from his father to his assistant experience. Sorry for the rant, but that should clear some things up yeah?

Good point about McBath and Bruton. In fact, had McBath not broken his arm, he likely would've been starting by the end of the year. He had been playing very well.
Where do you think they will go?

I really wish I could say. As much as I like Mac, I have no damn clue what he'll do. I don't think anyone does. What I'd like to see would be them trade back and stock up on both sides of the line. Williams from Tenn I think will be a decent 2nd rounder, maybe a 2nd round QB to develop (Brandstater isn't the future) Snead? With some coaching up he could be good and Mac seems to think he can coach up anyone.
Edit: And DFF, you're totally in the wrong thread right now. The radio thread is ^that way

Yeah the mock draft is crappy... Every other expert has Earl Thomas climbing the board because he can probably play either safety or cb and this guy has him lower than everyone else had him at the start.

good rant indeed, i agree he made a great move in getting rid of Jeff George jr., he realized right away that you wont win with a sulky baby like Cutler. i do also agree that Shanahan was living off past glory, he isnt the messiah that Washington fans think he is, but he does lend some credibility. Is the concensus around Denver that they will go for a high pick on a QB this year or go with Orton for a couple more years? its too bad that the Broncos finally get that impact reciever and he is a head case who is more than likely gone. I am a Chargers fan and its similiar to the Vincent Jackson situation, although i dont think he is as much of a problem as Marshall.

I hate the Chargers but Vincent Jackson is a good ol UNC boy, so I love him. Did all my summer football camps there as a kid.
To the point no. Most people think we'll sign Orton to a respectable deal around 3 years and draft another mid round QB to develop with Brandstater. I don't really want any of the 1st round QB's in the class anyway.
Interestingly enough there are rumours swirling of Marshall to the Seahawks, Nate Burleson has been twittering that he thinks he's hearing he's on the way. If the Broncos get their own 1st round pick back for Marshall I can't decide if I'll be happy or sad.
Edit: The Ditch, I agree. It would be ######ed but hey, two first round picks, Carroll may be enamoured with a big time talent like Marshall. Like I said, just dumb rumours from a player's twitter account. I'm hoping for a draft day trade for a 1st rounder myself.
Seahawks have too many holes to fill, the only area they're OK in is WR, I just don't see how giving up any draft picks could possibly be conceived as a good idea for them.

I don't think that that was Peter King's opinion. He stated that the voters are told to only consider what the individual did on the field. As an eligible voter he is obligated to do just that.
My personal opinion is the same. It is the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Not the Nice Guy Hall of Fame. Making a case for a mediocre football player who went beyond and above all the other players when it came to charity work should not qualify you for enshrinement in the Hall of Fame. There are other awards for such things such as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
I also believe that if OJ for instance had murdered his wife before he was enshrined into the Hall of Fame. He would have a tougher time getting in. I have no evidence to back that, but I could see voters passing over him for another candidate even though they are instructed to do otherwise.
I don't think good works should get a player in the HOF, but if you agree with that then I'm not sure you can say bad deeds should keep a player out.
I'm sure a players deeds affect his selection. You have a group of people making the decision, and even with their best intentions there will always be a few of them who will be influenced. And if it comes down to player A or player B to make the HOF, I'd be willing to be character then becomes a determining factor.

All this talk about the Hall of Fame has inspired me to share this. I get chocked up everytime I watch it. I love the part when Marty Schottenheimer yells from the sideline "HEY DT! LETS GO! Three and out or a touchdown for us". Those were the days.

I think marshall is staying for at least one year.
You can franchise 2 players next year and I see him and dumervil getting the tag.
As for the HOF - the Peter King comment was stupid, if you kill someone after you are done playing then you dont deserve to be in the hall (not that OJ was found guilty blah blah blah).
I agree good works after shouldnt get you in, but I wouldnt be surprised to see a guy like Keyshawn get in because of his "good works" at espn.
