Anyone been to Chinook in the last few days to see it?
I'm thinking of going tomorrow afternoon, just wondering how crazy it'll be there.

All of you guys who say you didn't think "The Dark Knight"...."Avatar"...."Titanic" etc were all that great, you are clearly in the minority, so do you think that makes you special? Do you think that makes you smarter than everyone who thought they were great? Are you trying to show some sort of superior insight inot the movie making world?
That probably sounds pretty sarcastic, but I am somewhat serious. You are of course entitled to your own opinion, as am I. I just don't understand that stance on it.
I don't go to the movies for a life changing experience, I just want to be entertained. the movies are meant to be an escape. They are meant to help you escape from reality for just a couple hours, make you forget about whats going on in your life, get caught up in the story and the characters, and become invested in their outcomes.
I havent seen avatar, but i plan to, and I think I will like it. I thought "The Dark Knight was great" as well I thought Titanic was pretty good. Heck a month or so ago I watched Night at the Museum 2 on a plane, and even though it is ridiculously silly, I admit I was entertained, and the flight went by quite quickly.
Does this mean I'm some sort of sheep, brainwashed by Hollwood to pay money for whatever they churn out however ridiculous it may be?
No, I think it just means I enjoy movies

Settle down there Mr. Cameron.
All a couple of us were saying is that when a movie gets too hyped up or you have people telling you that movie is the greatest ever, I'm usually let down.
I did say that Titanic sucked but I could see how some would love it...
if you're a woman.
And if anyone is special in this thread, it's you champ.

I was one of the huge skeptics when Avatar first started to get some buzz and talk. The trailers didn't excite me and I thought it would end up being an over hyped CGI piece of trash. But after reading some of the initial reviews I decided to give it a chance.
It was fantastic, no doubt about it. Sure there was some plot holes, cheese, and fluff but that was well overshadowed by the unreal visual experience. My inner movie snob was silenced, absolutely unreal film. Was it the best movie ever? No. But it's one of the best ones I've seen in a long time.

Watched Avatar last night. Story line is basically Fern Gully.
It wasn't bad, but I don't think it was the best movie ever. Great special effects for sure, and visually very appealing.

Strangely enough I remember not really liking Fern Gully.

Yup. Great film. For me, it's the best I've seen since the LotR trilogy (they're basically equal in terms of overall enjoyment for me, though I do find LotR's storyline stronger).
Recently, very few other movies compare favourably to this one for me. Iron Man, Star Trek, Momento and Wall-E were very enjoyable, but not on the level of Avatar. I've never seen a Batman movie in my life (I'm not sure how it's possible, either!), so I expect if/when I catch up on that series I'll be able to throw The Dark Knight up in that "elite" :P group as well.
I also liked the Ocean's trilogy and the Bourne Trilogy, and many others, but this one is so revolutionary, it's just ... different. Refreshing.
Avatar is definitely an epic movie in numerous ways, and is surprisingly more than well-deserving of it's hype.

I remember loving Fern Gully! I think it was the first cartoon Robin Williams voice acted, as the bat he was awesome.

Me too actually. Really liked Dark Knight, but I thought the first one was better.
Just saw Blind Side(two movies in an 18hr span, don't think I've ever done that before) at West Edmonton Mall and saw they have Avatar playing at the Imax there. I didn't know that! I think I gotta see this bad boy again...
(I saw Dark Knight twice, once on Imax and once in a regular theatre. I can't even begin to express how much better it was on Imax)

I like to think I'm a special person because I may disagree with other people's opinions.
Through this I am showing my superior insight.

Haha, well i guess this is my first lesson in previewing posts before actually posting them. Basically I skimmed the thread, got a little annoyed, went on a mini hypocritical rant and then left for the afternoon. Now that I'm back and I read what I posted, I would probably say the same thing to myself. Oh well. My annoyances were with whoever said they didn't really like the Dark Knight. I frickin' love that movie and can't understand why anyone wouldn't. It had everthing you could want in a good movie: heroes, villains, plot twists, great acting, special effects, acting and so on.
But then again I didn't really like District 9, and from what Ive read around here quite a few people loved that one.
As for that last bit, did you just call me a ######ed (special) woman ?
Anyhoo sorry folks. Now back on topic:
I can't wait to see avatar
That is all.

I just got back from Chinook. We got there at one to see it in IMAX, but it was sold out until the 10:30 show. We saw it in "regular" 3D at 3:10 which only had singles left. I'd go early grab a ticket then hit the mall for a bit. The seats actually started filling pretty early.
Amazing by the way.

Went to that showing as well, it really was an awesome movie. Even with all the hype, it was a really, really, cool movie.

Why don't you just buy the tickets online? That's what I did. Seen it the first showing in the morning on opening day here in Toronto, first in line, no fuss, no matter. Just printed my tickets out and showed them to the guy near the auditorium. It's a lot easier and more convenient than going and hoping they have tickets left before the show starts.

you still have to show up way too early to get decent seats for big movies like this though. if i ever have enough money to invest in a business i'm going to create a theater with assigned seating, like sports events, and with the same kind of price scaling. there's no way someone who has to sit in the front row should have to pay the same as someone in the sweet middle center spot

I think I will see it for the visuals but will expect pretty much predictable crap for the story.

Absolutely amazing movie.
The visuals are revolutionary. However, I doubt there will be too many movies blowing 300 or 500 million or whatever just to get that kind of quality.

Any idea how long the IMAX 3D will be playing. When I'm back in Edmonton after New Years I'd love to go again and see it in IMAX.
