Your original point was the neighbors should have recognized him.
My response was "that's silly."
Nothing noteworthy has followed. I continue to think that finding fault with the neighbor that reported a possible B&E is silly.

As much as I don't like how nose picker posts in this thread. Ihave to agree that there are a number of possibilities as to why the neighbor didn't see or recognize who GATES was so I agree with him.
Sorry DFF.

I know what my immediate neighbors (the ones that live on either side of me) look like. But anybody else.... I don't know them from Adam.

Thats fine. Qestions to ask are, how long did the neighbor live there for? How long did GATES live there for? How old was this lady? Does she have vision problems? Does she have mental problems? Was it the person who actually lived at the home that made the call? Just a few of many questions that should be asked before we can call the neighbor a racist.

Isn't Gates in his 50s? Is that elderly? Was the witness, what, 40?

Question #3: If you answered yes to all of the above questions, do you think that Gate's attitude toward the officer and the media attention it garnered will further his cause (see questions #1 through 3)?
The guy knew what was going to happen and what the end result would be. He's no dummy. Al Sharpton couldn't have done better if he'd done it himself.

How would a yes answer to questions 1-3 indicate that he has a cause that he is seeking to further? I would answer yes to all 3 of those questions as well, and the last time I checked I didn't have a cause to further.
I'll ask you again, what was he supposed to do when he felt like his rights were being trampled on due to his race? It sounds to me like you're calling for him to shut his mouth and deal with it.

No, that wasn't my point.
My point was they made the worst possible assumption based on the race of the two men.
Big difference.

He could have acted like a professional and then made a complaint at a later date if he felt he was wronged.

They didn't recognize him. He's black. They called the cops. That's where the biggest issue lies IMO.
Not with the cops.

Very easy to sit behind a keyboard and say that when you aren't the one being subjected to the treatment.

Pretty funny that Gates himself has commended the neighbors for calling the police when they thought his house was being broken into, huh?
Blaming the neighbor is ridiculous.

Yes it is.
But obviously you are not putting any weight into the officers report only GATES himself.

Huh? Read my posts in this thread, I've said repeatedly that I don't fully believe the accounts of either side. Whether it was racially motivated or not is irrelevant to this issue, this is about Gates apparently claiming racism solely due to some agenda that has apparently been created.

Thanks, so is defending Gates at every turn and not being willing to see any possibility that he is somewhat at fault for what happened.
I'm guessing he was crying racism long before he was arrested.

No need to guess, that is widely reported. Have you read the thread?

I love it when people don't read anything you've posted and accuse you of something, nice work.

Fine, but your post saying it is easy to do behind a keyboard suggests that you think it is not easy to do and thus support GATES for what he did.

Most of it. A lot of what's being reported has been questioned within that very thread has it not??

I believe Gates acting like a jackass (including 'playing the race card') while the officer was trying to identify him has been accepted as fact.
