Jaguar D-Type Built between 1954 and 1957 the D-type was originally intended as a pure race-car, and it did very well, winning Le Mans in 1955, 56 and 57.
A road going version of the D-type was produced, the XKSS, but on February 12, 1957 a fire destroyed the moulds for the car and only 16 XKSS cars were built.
The D-type is today one of the most expensive cars to procure, a 1955 D-type sold at auction for an astonishing 2,201,500 pounds in 2008 - that's 4.04 million in Canadian dollars.
