The best way to get used to it, I found, is get some people added, see who they're following, maybe follow some of them too. You'll quickly build a nice group of people to follow, and of course you can always trim out the ones you don't like. There's no need to jump in full speed and have 200 tweets a day to read.

I have yet to post anything, but apparently have 1 follower and not sure who she is or how she got there. If I can get a decent international data package I might have to post some drunken ramblings from vegas.

If you're looking to follow hockey stuff, for example, it's helpful to find the top bloggers for your team of interest and follow them. Look at who they converse with on a regular basis and you'll see who else might be worth following.

Good idea. All I've got for sports stuff is the Flames official twitter and Bob McKenzie.

After 2+ years of being of Twitter, I finally sent my first tweet today. Was to Bill Simmons, about how he needs to stop moping about the fortunes of his Red Sox & Celtics all the time and get all aboard the Bruins playoff train (though knowing how their playoff fortunes usually go, it probably won't help).

Haha feel like a bit of a stalker having my first tweet being to a celeb(ish), but with only 2 followers what else am I gonna tweet about?

I won't follow anyone who protects their tweets. I like to read what people tweet before I decide to follow them. How do I know what I'm going to get? Getting permission to follow someone seems like begging and is lame.

Man she tweets a lot! I actually was about to delete her until I got to some random T&A shots. It's like when you're watching a terrible movie on TV & are about to flip it until you see some skin, and then you figure "Meh, I'll give it 5 more mins", and next thing you know you've watched the whole thing.

It was easier to just add her to Instagram. That way I get the pictures and don't need to see her 20+ tweets an hour.
