I am going to try something a little differant.
I featured two Future Hall of Fame Coaches who both have Super Bowl Rings.
The comments by one of the coaches in the week leading up to the game. Motivated another Hall of Fame coach to motivate his team into a dynasty.
Who or What am I?

Another hint.
The nickname coined by the media was "Super Bowl eight and a half".

Well my experiment failed.
The answer is 1974 AFC Divisional Playoff between the two time defending Super Bowl Champion Dolphins coached by Don Shula. Versus the Oakland Raiders coached by John Madden. Raiders win 28-26 (I believe this was also the Sea of Hands game, but I could be confused).
Before the game John Madden kept talking about how the Dolphins and Raiders were the class of the NFL and the winner of this game would win the Super Bowl. That is why the hype generated the nickname "Super Bowl eight and a half". These comments infuriated Pittsburgh Steelers coach Chuck Noll.
According to Pittsburgh Steelers RB Rocky Blier. Chuck didn't like to motivate players. He said if a player needed to be motivated, he didn't want them on this team. After hearing John Madden's comments. Chuck gave a speach in the Steeler dressing room that Blier said was completely out of character for Noll. He told the Steelers that the best team in the NFL wasn't the Dolphins or the Raiders. The best team in the NFL was in this dressing room. Steelers go on to beat the Raiders (no not the immaculate reception, that happened in 1972) and then go on to win Super Bowl 9. Their first of four Super Bowl victories in the 1970's.

I am considered one of the best at my position of all time.
I was the NFL Defensive Player of the year.
I am in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
I am most famous for a rule change that was implemented because of my physical style of play. The new rule was nicknamed after me.
Who am I?

I don't think the idea failed.
But the line "The comments by one of the coaches in the week leading up to the game." isn't a sentence. I had no idea what you meant. (Looking back, I can see you meant, "The comments by one of the coaches in the week leading up to the game annoyed another Hall of Fame coach to motivate his team into a dynasty."
Now that we have an example, don't be afraid to do it again. The thread could be renamed "NFL Who/What am I?"

Reading it now, I can see how that would be confusing. I'll try better next time.

Not Deacon Jones. I'm not sure if the Head Slap was banned because of him or not? None the less, I have never heard of the Deacon Jones Rule.

I'm a National Historic landmark, part of the Ivy league, an inspiration for other storied facilities, and for a while was a home to an NFL team. Who am I?

Franklin Field one time home of the Philadelphia Eagles? The one with the mansion or castle in the endzone?

Nope
Edit: Although I hadn't realized the Ti-Cats defeated the Ottawa Rough Riders in that stadium.

Nope.
But you are teaching me neat things:
Quote:
|
When colleges were discussing how to make the game of football less bloody Yale's Walter Camp proposed the field be widened by 40 feet so as to spread out the game and lessen the danger. Harvard Stadium's permanence, however, ensured that the field would not be widened. Instead, the forward pass was legalized.
