I liked Shea, but what a primadonna.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I hope the Jays send him to the minors for a while to cool off, see how a few long bus trips feel.

Hillenbrand has a terrible rep for being a selfish player, he tries to come off as a hard nosed type, but he played his way out of Boston calling Epstein out as he was dealt. good riddance.

Hillenbrand has an apparently well earned rep as a whiner. As soon as the Jays acquired him I started the countdown clock to when he'd be gone from the organisation...frankly, it took far longer than I thought it would.
He's had some timely hits and been a key member of the team for certain periods of time, but you can say that about for almost any team he's played for.
It's too bad, but not unexpected. I thought he had his personal issues sorted out...guess not.
Bye bye Shea...don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out...and don't be upset when the Jays have more success than whatever team you end up on...goof.

I liked Shea too, un til I read this (from this morning's T-Sun):
"(the incident) had a lot to do with Hillenbrand writing: "This is a sinking ship" on the chalkboard where batting practice times are written."
"According to one unnamed Blue Jay: "The manager said: 'You're gone! I'll be gone before you ever play another game in this organization.' "He was a cancer in this clubhouse," another player said. "Shea's day went the way the lineup card went. If he was in the lineup, everything was fine. If he wasn't he'd sulk. Sometimes he wouldn't even come out to hit."
"Hillenbrand's sense of humour included ripping the Canadian flag crest off the hat that the Jays wore Canada Day in a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, according to a team official."

"“Not one person from the front office has even come up to congratulate me,’’ he said. “It’s all the (other) people like you (media) guys. But nobody from higher up. That’s a disgrace.’’
I don't follow the Jays that much but even this guy strikes me as being one of the worst whiners since I followed the F1 circuit. Not being showered in accolades because you had a child? Was he expecting a ticker tape parade or something?

Ugh...And here I like Shea based only on his play. Seemed to be be able to produce when in the lineup. Knowing some of the things he did when not playing wow.. What a fool. Dont blame the Jays one bit for want to get rid of a player.
Nothing says I am a team player like writing that message on a chalk board.
This is one of those addition by subtraction moves. one can always use Reed Johanon or the Cat as DH when they are not in the field. Since one always sits anyway..

There's a reason he's going to be joining his 4th team in 6 years. Enjoy the Royals Shea - I hear it's quite pleasant to play there in August with no hope of making the playoffs!!!

I would be opposed to doing that with Cat and Johnson. They are excelling this because of how they are being used. Cat cannot hit against lefties. Johnson seems to get worse when he plays everday.
I'd be inclined to use Hinske as your DH, or Molina when Zaun starts behind the plate.
I thought the comments from the players were interesting. TSN had a couple of clips. Wells looked a little disturbed by the entire thing but Cat seemed very supportive of the organization and not really that upset to be seing Shea head out the door.

You make some valid points. I just saw it as a way to get them more involved. But using Molina or Zaun is a decent option. unless you something happens to one of them when they are catching. Hinske I dont know for some reason I dont have much faith in him when he bats...

Wow, I only wish JP traded that "BUM" earlier on this year. Now it will be a very difficult trade and I bet they get nothing in return.

Sadly I think you might be right. Would not be suprised if they ended up having to outright release him.

I think they'll find a suitor. San Diego just released Vinny Castilla yesterday and are looking for a 3B. Most of the teams in the AL West are looking for an extra bat, as is Minnesota.
They won't get much in return however. I expect a 2nd or 3rd tier prospect... probably either a kid in A-ball or a nearly washed up AAA guy.

If anything this helps get Reed Johnson into the lineup on a every day basis, which is an absolute must, JP should be giving him an extension asap.

Once Rois is healthy I believe they will rotate Cat and Reed in LF. I believe the DH will be Hinskie.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. What a poor attitude. Like JP says in the article up on sportsnet.ca, there's two sides to every story, and the Jays' story is significantly different from Shea's. If the truth is somewhere in the middle, then this just makes him look awful because even his story isn't that redeeming.
It would be cool to see him get assigned ... oh how awesome it would be. "You want more playing time? Have fun on the farm!"

Catcher Jason Phillips (.268, 7 HR, 38 RBI) has been recalled from Syracuse to replace Hillenbrand. I suspect that this will allow the Jays to use Molina more at DH, and use Phillips occasionally at first to give Overbay a rest.

Wow, you'd really like to see that? I mean Hinske has been a bit better this season, but Johnson is having a career year, a guy that has to be in the lineup everyday imo.

it's been said here before, Johnson plays better when he's not in the lineup everyday. Hinske has surprised me with some decent hitting and some great looking catches in the outfield. Unlike Mr Hillenbradn he doesn't whine about playing time.
I am worried about Wells' future here, he seems to be the only one publicly siding with Shea, not to mention his oft-mentioned desire to play in Texas with old pal Michael Young.
I'm a little tired of some people (none here mind you) hacking on Riccardi for expecting more out of this team. He spent a lot of money, these guys should be able to handle a little criticism without crying about it.
