I wasn’t even expecting to like this tournament. I certainly wasn’t expecting to become a huge fan of Hagel.
I have to say I was a little wrong about Hagel.
When Tampa traded Taylor Raddysh, Boris Katchouk, conditional round 1 pick in the 2023 draft (Oliver Moore) and round 1 pick in the 2024 draft (Cole Eiserman) it looked like a ridiculous overpayment.
And two top 20 picks in Moore and Eiserman is still a really high price to pay.
At the time Hagel had 61 points in 107 career NHL games, and it looked like it was a huge over payment to get 2 1sts for him.
But he's actually been a pretty good player for them and is over a point per game this year, and 201 points in his last 218 games with the Lightning.

The payment was largely based on his contract and their cap situation while going all in.

Yeah, he had an okay rookie season in Chicago and started improving in his sophomore year. Tampa grabbed him because they thought he still had room to go and far more importantly, he was cost-controlled.
I’m not sure if this is a picture of Bill Guerin or Sméagol after possessing the One Ring for too long.
Quote:
"We would love it if President Trump was in attendance," Guerin said. "We have a room full of proud American players and coaches and staff. And listen, we’re just trying to represent our country the best way we can."
"I think a little bit of everything," Guerin told Fox News. "Canada-U.S. is a huge rivalry in hockey. I think there was a little bit of a political flare to it. It’s just the time that we’re in. I think our guys used that as inspiration. If you let it get the better of you, then you’re in trouble. But I really do think the players used it as inspiration."
Didn’t Guérin Tomahawk a teammate in training camp brutally for no apparent reason. He is 100% old boys tard tough guy that permeates hockey so deeply.
I think this is my favourite hockey fight of all time. Iginla is certainly my favourite player of all time and this clip gives me goosebumps remembering how much of a monster he was. That last body shot and the slow kneeing submission… ####ing awesome.

What a great tournament. Lots of old comments calling this a gimmick or predicting all star intensity have aged like milk.
Only improvement would have been finding a way to add the Czechs. Call it the Champions Trophy for countries that have won a best on best tournament. Russia doesn’t qualify because the Soviet Union doesn’t exist, while Finland gets a wild card for having the most 2nd place finishes.
Also was hearing on the broadcast this is the 14th best on best tournament while I’ve calculated 15. Are the 2005 World Championships not counted? They should be.
